IE8 Compatibility

Post by ambila » Fri Jan 14, 2011 3:55 pm

Hi

I hope this is the right forum to post this. I've just developed my own website by using a free template that i downloaded. The website view fine on firefox but on IE8, the coding

<!--[endif]--><!--[if !ppt]--><!--[endif]-->

displays in between the paragraphs. I downloaded the IE8 plugin from the Joomla extensions website and tried to install it via Extensions>install/uninstall. I keep getting the error message

Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package.

Can someone please help with this solution of know of a fix.

Thank you
Ambila

What was the free template? Is/was it Joomla 1.6 native compatible?

IE8 is a nasty brat that should be put into an orphanage then euthanized! Why Microsoft keeps unleasing such monsters on the world - like IE9beta.

Microsoft content tends to carry with it alot of hidden code that goes visible at the wrong times, which is why JCE Editor has a [W] option for inputting MSWord text. Hope JCE goes Joomla 1.6 native quickly.

Tell us more about the template w/o the XML setup file please.

Hi

Thanks for your response back. I'm not too technical with web design. Had to learn to do just my own website. The template is called 1_time. I downloaded from a website that i don't remember.

You can have a look at the website www.amomentevents.co.uk to get an idea of what it looks like.

The programmer did create css file for ie7 & ie6. What else do you need to know about the template?

thanks

Does the footer on the template say it is a 1.5 template?

There seems to be alot of line-by-line coding if you look at the css.

I don't think this is a 1.6 compatible template per se.

Actually, this looks like an Artisteer generated template that has had the "art-" prefixes removed from the CSS tags in the template.

Hi

the template is a joomla 1.5/ I downloaded from this link.

http://www.joomlaxtreme.com/free-joomla ... earch.html

search term is clock - only one template is displayed.

I assumed that because the coding has a css file for 1e6 & 1e7, that that was what os making it compatible.

warm regards

The IE6 and IE7 files are for backward compatibility. You may need one for IE8, depending, but the template is written for Joomla 1.5 and not 1.6 as I suspected.

Ask the folks at JoomlaXtreme for support for their template for use for 1.6 compatibility.

Still hasn't worked. I had no luck with posting on the Joomla Xtreme forum.

Can anyone else help?
