Where to set site title tag?

Post by pilotjourney » Sat Feb 14, 2009 4:14 pm

Where do we set the main title tag for the site when someone first enters the site as in mydomain.com?

Surely this is not Site Name in Global Configuration? That does not make sense.

Hi...

Go to Menu - Main menu - Home
Look at Parameters (System) in right panel, and then change 'Page Title'.

Hope this helps. :)

Hello,

I attempted to follow the path "Go to Menu - Main menu - Home" and was unable to find "menu" "main menu" or "home".

I'm trying to match these names to those in the control panel.

Please help.

Thanks.

Hi Stomcat,

Menu > Main Menu then look for Page Title on System Settings.

I believe the problem i'm having is that none of my menus are named "Main Menu." (I've changed them.)

I do have a menu named "Resources" with an asterisk next to it. When I select it I don't see "Page Title" or "System Settings."

I can't figure out what I'm missing....

You should have the "Main Menu". ;)
When you are logged into the back end of Joomla!, go into the MENU item, and in the cascading menu that drops down, there should be a MAIN MENU. If there is not, you may have re named it something else. I believe it should have an * next to it marking it for you. Click that item, and then click on your home page from the list.

On the right, there should be what are called "Accordion Panes" :geek: or silver click and open thingies. It should be titled "Parameters (System)"

See if that helps :D

I am having a similar issue - I cannot get the <Title> tag to change. My site is http://www.mightywurlitzer.co.uk/

I've done what you said, gone to Menu - Main menu - Home and changed Page Title in Parameters (System) to 'The Mighty Wurlitzer'

Also, I'm using sh404SEF and I've gone to Meta Tags - Home Page Meta and set the Title Tag to 'The Mighty Wurlitzer'.

However, the Title tag still says 'Andrew Schumann - Sculptor' (I copied the current site from and old site, and this is what the title of the old site was)

I don't know what else to try, can anyone help?

H...

I've checked your site, and the Title is : The Mighty Wurlitzer | Playing funky live music to classic silent films.
Seems like your problem has solved, right ?

Hi there,

The topic was about how to set a title tag, but the answers seem to be regarding how to set the text in the browser's title bar. I don't think making text in the title bar will create the title tag, and I checked the code and there seems to be no trace of the words I used for the title bar, there no <head> tag even.

Are you sure this is how to set the title tag? If so then why does it not appear in the page code?

Thanks,

1). If home page title means go to Global Configuration find for Site Name there you cane set your home page title
2). If depth pages means go to Menu > Main Menu then look for Page Title on Parameters (System) and set the Show Page Title prefix.

instructions are not for titel tag meta data

Post by mowrow » Mon Feb 28, 2011 9:32 am

same point: I don't think those instructions are for the title tag (title tag meta data for SEO, would appear in the code, not just in the browser's title bar).

I bought a Joomla site over six months ago and I still have not been able to figure this out. It makes you feel stupid, not being able to change something so simple. I'll check some of the notes here and if I find something that works I'll report back. Thanks for the attempts, at least.

Yes it is rather stupid that it is so difficult Jhulk. I still haven't found any solution and my developers find it difficult as well. I would appreciate any update on that.

Thanks,

uhm dont you just go to global configuration, on the bottom left the metadata settings there are 2 blocks for texts the first is called: "Global Site Meta Description" and the section "Global Site Meta Keywords"

in concept isn't Global Site Meta Description and keywords your main title tag due to the fact that they both summarize your website for initial viewers?

why title tags and heading tags

Post by mowrow » Thu Mar 10, 2011 9:30 pm

Erm the Joomla community recommends having title tags not just description and keywords according to http://docs.joomla.org/Entering_search_engine_meta-data . My marketing coach recommends title and headings tags as well so ;]

setting title and h1 tags

Post by mowrow » Mon Mar 28, 2011 10:00 am

Hi there!

I finally found the solution all by myself for title AND h1 heading tags even :D

Title Tags: contain the page’s main keyword, followed by its content’s brief description. Less than 65 characters. This is the actual link in the results pages. In Joomla 1.5 this is what you enter into the menu item’s ‘Parameter (System)’. It will show up in the code in the front-end within <title> at the top. You can choose to show this on the content (will show as a title if so), but it will always be in the browser tab text. e.g. How to Tame Squirrels.

H1 Heading Tags: adds a little more info to the title for the topic. You should use STRONG to emphasize the keywords. In Joomla 1.5 this is what you enter into the ‘Title’ field in the Article Manager’s page. It will show up in the code in the front-end within <h1> at the bottom if you choose to show this in the content. E.g. 101 Ways to Tame Backyard Squirrels.

Hope that helps!

For those of you using 1.6, instead of main menu go to--Top Menu*--Home--system parameters on left side.

Hope this helps

I'm not sure how to describe my questions..

How can I change the title text when google my website. www.irestaustralia.com.au
iRest Australia - Refresh Yourself - Ultimate Massger Chair Experience
this is what is currenlty on - I want to change to different text and apply to each page on the website.

What shall I do? :'(

I don't have any knowledge of Joomla but I have tried to play around with it and sorted a few things out.
