Translation/Language Listing Not Published

Post by di3sel_lt » Tue Mar 22, 2011 1:56 pm

Hi JED Team,

few weeks ago i have submited my extension to JED and waited patiently for you to review it. Unfortanetely, today i've noticed that there are no pending extension in my JED page. It got removed without any comments or feedback from your team.

It was a Lithuanian Joomla 1.6 translation. In my opinion you removed it because you have "an official translation" from lithuanianjoomla.com team. But is it the best lithuanian translation available? I think not, they haven't even translated Joomla 1.6 back-end yet. And our team (http://www.joomla123.lt) have submitted FULL joomla 1.6 front-end and back-end translations with auto update ability from our update server... It's just not fair... Our team worked alot to make this translation complete and without errors. But if you think, that incomplete and buggy official translation is better than full and tested "unoficial" it's up to your.

I hope you will leave your feedback here.

It could also be that you have not applied to use a domain name with joomla in it
http://opensourcematters.org/joomla-nam ... uests.html
The Joomla! name and logos are not trademark free and are not copyright free. In most cases, to use the Joomla! name or Joomla! logo(s), you must request permission from Open Source Matters.

Un requested Help PM's will be reported, added to the foe list and possibly just deleted

An additional note: Only accredited translations are allowed in the JED, already approved non-accredited translations are being phased out.

To learn more about accredited translations, please see this page: http://community.joomla.org/translations.html

Thanks for your fast reply.

mandville - thanks alot, I've already applied for domain.

mlipscomb - thanks for info, but as i see you already have your own "Lithuanian translation team", and we don't want to join them as they can't translate Joomla in 6 months. Our team of three people did that in less then two weeks...

So i guess our translation will never be accepted and will be shared only in our website. :(

-----
You know it's funny that "translation team", who had translated like 100 lines, BUT added their project first becomes "Official accredited translation team". You should check the quality of that translation and compare to ours...

Actually I personally am not part of the translation team as my only language is English. However, I would imagine that if you and your team have the ability to translate and donate that time to the translation teams that it would be appreciated. Please contact the Translation Working Group for more information - the JED doesn't really have anything to do with it with the exception of listing the translations approved by that team.

Hi di3sel_lt,

Good to hear there are so many entusiastic contributing volunters :)

As you learned there already is a Lithuanian Translation Team, and we encourage collaboration, so first step would be to contact the Lithuanian Translation Team Coordinator 'Stasys' and see how your teams can spend ressources best possible.
You can find Lithuanian contact at this page:
http://community.joomla.org/translation ... tions.html

Any questions about this you are always welcomed to contact one of the Translation Coordination Team members http://forum.joomla.org/memberlist.php?mode=group&g=47

ot2sen thanks for your reply. There's no any chance of our team working with stasys or sharing our products with him as our 'Joomla123.lt community' thinks he doesn't deserve that position, same as lithuanianjoomla.com doesn't deserve "Official lithuanian joomla community" name.

EDIT: I would gladly send you our version, so you could compare quality of our and their works.

Hi folks, I'm a founder of Joomla123.lt website.
As you can see, it seems that there is some confrontation in Lithuanian Joomla community(-ies), which looks disturbing, since Joomla is about cooperation.
Honestly, I didn't quite remember, how this confrontation started.
I just can remember, that I was not added to official Joomla translation team, though I applied twice, for no reason (except that I run my own website about Joomla).
But situation, that we have right now, is that official Joomla team does so little, it's almost not noticeable.
Articles are very rare, no categorized translations, only forum is still alive with PM and emails disabled, so members are forced to communicate only through topics.
Additionaly, ALL topics, posted by known administrators of Joomla123.lt are deleted from both http://forumas.lithuanianjoomla.com/ and http://forum.joomla.org Lithuanian forum.
It seems, official team administrator registers everywhere he can - Joomla groups, Joomla magazine, but his efforts in Joomla propagation is minimal.
It doesn't take an expert to compare two websites - http://www.joomla123.lt and http://www.lithuanianjoomla.com to understand, which site is more about Joomla.

For the end: the Joomla123.lt team consists of busy people, with different professions, and we do not have pretence to become "Official Lithuanian Joomla community" status, since we really feel, that "official" means high degree of responsability, and sometimes we are too busy to react properly.
All we want is that our efforts would be recognized to some degree by official Joomla team.

I don't think this is a right topic to that, but it's realy unfair that some of our people cannot post in Lithuanian topic in official joomla forum as all the topics get immediately deleted.

Thanks both for your input.

Let us not make this a public blame, but instead work towards the best collaborative result for the Lithuanian end users of joomla! Thanks :)

We dont use the terms official, but have great teams that have agreed to the terms in our translation policy. Registered translation teams from all over the world.

So, we have more Lithuanian entusiastic volunters, that is just great.
There surely must be a way for all of you to focus at collaborating and sharing, and help joomla grow in Lithunia.

The Translation Coordination Team will expect both teams to be open towards working together.
We got the mail sent and will give it a view, and hear all interests in this, and then get back to you.

Thanks for your reply ot2sen.. Im looking forward to receive any feedback from you. As you have already said, this topic is not for public blame.
Anyway we cannot share piece of our hard work with a group of leechers that havent translated J1.6 in months..
If there are no other choice, we will keep this and other our translations for our website visitors and community members.

Best regards,

Hmm...

1. I know our Lithuanian Registered Translation team is open to collaboration and welcomes any help. This is by the way our Official Translation Policy:
See: http://community.joomla.org/translation ... olicy.html
If you are not wanting to collaborate, it's a pity for the project.

2. Accusing people of being "leachers" in the GPL world, is like accusing people of eating bananas because yourself eat bananas.
It could be considered by some though as a serious accusation and this would have to be demonstrated.
But if you think your translation is much better then the other one, you should be proud some of it is copied (if it is the case...). Is'nt it the most important that the Lithuanian speaking people get the right stuff?

3. If the topics posted by your administrators on the Lithuanian forum on forum.joomla.org are deleted with no reason, you should report this to Global Moderators. I have not seen such reports
If they were deleted because they were self-advertising, it's forum policy and they should be deleted indeed.

4. I am curious to know why you don't create a project on joomlacode instead of sourceforge. This is where we suggest people proposing alternative language packs to post their packs.
I suggest you do the same. It will be easier for Joomla users to find them.

5. Your site does not comply with OSM Trademark (No disclaimer, no use of the first occurence of Joomla!®. I can't find any trace of you asking the authorization to use this url.)
I encourage you to normalize this situation as soon as possible.

6. Your pack contains 2 errors:
a. the localise.php is not saved as UTF8 NO BOM
b. The lib_joomla.ini is missing in the site part.
(Hope it helps)

In conclusion,
It's not the role of the Translation Team Coordination to decide which translation is better than another one.
It is Joomla!® project policy to encourage collaboration, specially for the core translations.
It is Joomla!® project policy not to confuse the users with various packs for the same language on JED.

I suggest you collaborate with the registered Lithuanian Translation team.
If you decide not to, no need to rant on our forums or elsewhere (see forum rules).

Regards

infograf768 - as I mentioned before, I applied twice for official translation team with no response.
As for the list item 5., I applied for approval of Joomla123.lt domain name at least 2-3 months ago, but got no reply (strange you can't find any trace of it).
Again, I can blame myself for not trying one more time.
Thanks for the notice on translation errors, will fix them asap.
Anyway, I guess somebody should step forward in this situation and I would like to stop blaming any of sides.
Let's cool down the things and close this case, we will try to reach some agreement between ourselves.

Regards

'registered', not 'official', please...

Indeed, no need to go on with this topic here.
Closing it now.

Thanks for your understanding.
