Error Saving article - Invalid parent id.
"Joomla Save failed with the following error: Invalid parent id."
- I feel this might be a big error due to my database migration from 1.5.
Would love some help here.

Re: Error Saving article - Invalid parent id.
Hi,
I've got the same problem. But I did not migrate data.
Just trying to save a single newly created article which IS created with above message.
Trying to modify it produces the same results : modifications accepted but message appears.
Edit : Solved? I don't know what did it -- cleared the cache, logged out and back into admin
Just one of those things.

Re: Error Saving article - Invalid parent id.
Still looking for some help here
Heres a screen shot of the error. It occurs after creating then saving any new articles. The articles appear to save fine even though but Im worried there will be issues down the road from this.

http://groups.google.com/group/joomla-d ... 31cb?fwc=1In some of the development I was doing the other week I did notice an error
like this...it appeared to be due to an invalid asset_id value if I remember
correctly.
There is a bug tracker for it but it has been closed http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... m_id=20839

Re: Error Saving article - Invalid parent id.
Yea I did some Google searches and came up with both of those but neither seem to have a solid resolution.Webdongle wrote:http://groups.google.com/group/joomla-d ... 31cb?fwc=1In some of the development I was doing the other week I did notice an error

But did you submit a report to the bug tracker ?ataylor20 wrote:...

Also do you have nested categories and that is causing confusion in Joomla ?
Have you tried saving to different categories ?
Are you using a non standard Template as Default ? Sometime Template overrides cause problems

Re: Error Saving article - Invalid parent id.
But did you submit a report to the bug tracker ?
- I have not considering this case was closed. I have always submitted inquires here in the past so I have not submitted anything on that page ever. Maybe that would be a good start?
Also do you have nested categories and that is causing confusion in Joomla ?
- I have now created some nested categories as I thought that was the point of the new system. I will un-nest a group and save an article, see what that does.
Have you tried saving to different categories ?
- I typically on use the categories that are nested so again I will test this. (Thanks)
Are you using a non standard Template as Default ? Sometime Template overrides cause problems
- Im using a artisteer template. Not sure if that is a "Non Standard Template"

I would consider that a non standard Template in that:ataylor20 wrote:....

It is not installed with Joomla
It is not written by someone who fully understands html/css/variables used in Joomla. No offence meant but IMHO people who knows what they are doing would not use artisteer. Try with the Templates that were installed with Joomla.

Re: Error Saving article - Invalid parent id.
This fixed it for me whilst having the following symptoms:
a) Error invalid parent ID in content articles when saving (articles saved, though)
b) Asset_id in content table is 0
Solution:
1. Click 'rebuild' in menu manager
2. Click 'rebuild' in categories
3. Open Categories (top categories first, then sub-categories) and save them
New articles save now correctly, old ones will get their asset_id when opening and saving again.

Re: Error Saving article - Invalid parent id.
Didn't work for me. I removed the parent on the category, rebuilt menus and categories, but still get error.
Currently trying out Joomla! 2.5 at BurkheadUMC.org

6 years later and thanks robb
thanks robB for the solution.
Don't forget to go back to categories - top level ones first- and open each one and save and close again.
6 years later and this solution still works!

Re: Error Saving article - Invalid parent id.
We also recently upgraded from 1.5 to 2.5
The given solution of opening and closing menu/category items actually does work, however on a large site with many menu items/categories this is physically impossible to do.
Any significant change in our configuration or CCK template (we are using the Form2Content component) results in the 'invalid ID' error coming up at refresh of our articles. With thousands of articles it becomes a really big issue.
If someone knows of a sustainable solution to this problem I would like to know.
