HI Bitstorm,

Very nice work. I was avoiding VM like the palgue and never thought of using K2. I have just downloaded it as it comes with a RocketTheme that I just ordered and I like it. Lots of options - I can see where you take advance of the with the pdf download, images, etc.

I really like how you did the search option which is a major requirement with what my project. It looks like you made search options for each data field. If I may ask, how did you accomplish this?

Oh, and are you able to give editor access to specific categories through K2 or Joomla?

Thanks much!! and very nice - clean work.

Meredith

Sorry for the delayed response, thanks! glad you like the site.

We use K2 to create the category structure and use items for our products .. the extra information is via extended fields.

The search was accomplished used a sort of meta database.. we have a database that is outside of K2 that is used for doing the searches, but this database contains a K2 item id .. so when we have matches, we generate a link directly to the "item" in K2 ..

Administration of this would normally be a pain because you'd have to create the category structure, create the items, then build the meta database and maintain them all .. so if you change one thing you have to change it in multiple places.. we solved that with an import system that runs off of a single excel document, so if an item is edited at all or the structure changes, they just alter the spreadsheet and import it.. it re-creates the entire catalog from square one..

Hi bitstormweb

I referred your page and saw that your item content could display more than 1 image (as the link below)
http://www.laddinc.com/our-products/onl ... -132.html#

Do you buy a different extension or what?
(is it "Simple Image Gallery Pro"?)
Thanks for introducing K2.

Hi guys, reading through this thread (I'm after a simple catalog that I could add a contact form to - no transaction required) and there appear to be a number of options. Did anyone find a winning solution for something really simple a non-technical customer could administer?

Thanks for your help.

I used http://dj-extensions.com/extensions/dj-catalog2.html - works a treat. Here's an example on one of my clients: http://www.camcycles.co.uk/bikes-for-sale

Dead easy to install and for my client to update.

Cheers

John

Hi,

I hope this information is not too late!

There is a revolutionary digital catalog platform empowering our clients to create and share catalogs in real time on the cloud. You no longer need to download complicated software or deal with Flash files just to get your catalog on your sites.

Take a sneakpeak at: [url]http://www.stylemelt.com

You are looking in the wrong places, here for a start, this is the Joomla 1.0 part of the forum.
