When will the Extension Manager update be made available? When I check this in the administrator backend it gives me the notice 'There are no updates available at the moment. Please check again later.'

You may have to refresh cache in the Extension manager->Manage, then Purge cache in the Update tab, and then Find Updates.
If any available Update it should display.

No available updates. Checked 1.6.0 and 1.6.1, and in two browsers.

The update server is down at the moment, so I think this is why we are getting this. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Also, the developer.joomla.org site is down. Hang in there and keep smiling. Mark

I downloaded and unzipped the new version and am ftp'ing 1.6.2 to HostGator right now for a brand new website. This release from yesterday could not have come at a better time. Fantasctico Deluxe at HostGagor is still running 1.5.23 and I didn't want to deal with migrating data! I thought I saw one time that the new release of 1.7 (possibly coming in July) will not be a migration, but rather an upgrade... I hope this is true!

Who is supposed to fix the update server issue? Would be nice to at least get updates on this from somebody.

I believe it was a host issue that Rochen fixed. I think it was down for something around 1/2 day. Mark

Is the update server still down? I'm getting the same result as everyone else. ("There are no updates available at the moment. Please check again later.")

It's also not working for me in the backend. What has changed though is that the xml files on the update server can be reached now. Those file also show that 1.6.2 has been added.

I am a bit puzzled. The server appears to be up, and the update works for me on a new Joomla 1.6.1 installation. I also tried it on a live 1.6.1 installation. In both cases, the 1.6.2 upgrade shows in the Extension Manager: Update screen.

Have you tried (a) in Extension Manager:Manage select Type=File, click on Joomla CMS, and press Refresh Cache; and (b) in Extension Manager:Update click Purge Cache?

That didn't work. After some searching I found that in the table jos_update_sites, both rows were disabled (enabled=0). When setting enabled to 1 manually/refresh cache/purge cache/find updates, it did properly detect the update. After this, the update also worked fine. This both for 1.6.0, and for 1.6.1.

As a beginner this is scary stuff for me, but I just went into cpanel and changed the Joomla Core and joomla Extension Directory to Enabled 1 as per Tonie's suggestion. (as an aside -- I have also in the jos_update_sites Akeeba Backup Core Updates and Joomla.Rjews.Net).
Anyway I tried the Refresh Cache/Purge and now my 1.6.2 is installed (couldn't do it before either from zip update file or from Extension Manager). It took two attempts to install it but it says it's installed.

I guess this is good. Thanks.

Hi. Here is a proposed patch with test instructions. It would be great to get this tested as soon as possible. Thanks!

Thank you Tonie for sharing. It did the trick!

This has been fixed in 1.6.3. Unfortunately, you have to get 1.6.3 to get the fix. Mark

I would like to say how it worked for me without having to upload 1.6.3 with FTP.

I had 1.6.1 and could not upgrade to 1.6.2. What I did first was what Tonie suggested, changing the jos_upgrade_site database.

Once I turned both "Enabled" to 1, it was possible to go back into Joomla Administrator, Refresh Cache, Purge Cache, Find Upgrade, and 1.6.2 upgrade appeared and installed perfectly.

Once that was installed, then Extension Manager worked perfectly for 1.6.3 also.

I am new to this but here is how I turned Enabled to 1. Went to my host and went into cPanel and found phpAdmin. Highlighted jos_upgrade_site from the list on the left and clicked Edit. It was clear from there how to change the two 0's to 1's. I don't remember the exact details.

I do not know if this is a good method, but worked, and I don't notice any problems. If I did it wrong, I hope someone will correct me. The good thing is I did not have to do an FTP upload. 1.6.3 installed fine with Extension Manager.

Joomla 1.6 has reached its end of life and would not be supported any more by Joomla developers team. It means that, even there are some security problems found in the latest version of Joomla 1.6, the fixes would not be made and published.it's time for an upgrade. Fortunately, it's not that hard to upgrade from Joomla 1.6 to 2.5.
