Deleting Template

Post by Kandlelight » Sun May 30, 2010 3:38 pm

Not sure if this is a bug or if I just don't know how to do it in the new 1.6, but... installed a template and now would like to delete it as I have made revisions in it and want to upload the new one.

Go to try to delete the old template and it gives me "Cannot delete last style of template". Even changed the name of the "Style" to an existing style of another template and still not able to delete.

Had to go into phpMyAdmin to delete the "style" in order to install the revamped template.

Would you please add this to the issue tracker. Link is at the top of this forum.

Hi...

I'm using RC1 and I'm unable to install any templates. I've looked through the issue tracker and it's very confusing because there are several reports about this happening in beta versions. Some replies seemed to say deletion of core templates was deliberately disabled as a "security issue". Some other posts said this issue had been solved...? And that was all a while ago, before RC1.

But I have RC1 and I can't even uninstall my own custom template, let alone the core templates. This isn't good.

Can anyone confirm they still have the same issue with RC1?

Deleting a style will definitely not delete a template. To delete a template you need to go to the extensions manager and use the tools there.
A style is just a saved set of parameter valuess.

teapotbag <--- I belive You have to go to the extension manager, and use the discover function to find the template! (And the template needs to be 1.6 compatible.)

Primarly: you need to change templateDetails.xml.

Else: Try to install the template, all templates, must be installed or discovered :)

I'm trying to delete a template, which should imply that I have already installed it.

I'm using the stable J 1.6 and I've not been able to delete the last style of any template. Even my own.
I can make a duplicate of a style and then delete the original, but the now "new duplicate" can't be deleted.
"Cannot delete last style of a template" is the response.

I'll continue testing and searching and post back here if I find anything.

EDIT:
Found this and it works.

GoTo

1."Extension Manager: Manage"
2."Manage" Tab
3.Find Template
4."Uninstall"

Every installed template has to have at least one style.

The above sequence worked, but in the Template Manager I still see the template to be deleted. And when deleting it, I get the error "Cannot delete last style of a template".

Any sugestions?

I have the same problem. In my case, although i already deleted the templates under Extension Manager, i can not rid of the template styles. Something is screwed up in the DB.

I am experiencing the same issue. I HAVE uninstalled the template successfully. It has disappeared from the Extension Manager. However, it is still listed in Template Manager. When I try to delete it there I get the dreaded 'Cannot delete last style of template.'

I really do not want my client to see the old not working templates used in development. Does anyone know how to get rid of them -- either through Joomla itself or by editing the database directly?

One has first to make sure that the template style is not used as default or is not assigned to a specific menu item.
This can be seen in the template style manager.

The templates were not assigned to any pages, however Joomla has automatically added '-Default' after the title of every template listed in the Template Manager. Including the ones that are installed with the core.

Am I doing something wrong with my XML that is making all my templates -Default?

I ended up going into the database and manually removing them from the list. So, my issue is somewhat resolved for now. However, I'd like to understand why this is happening so I can prevent it from occurring again.

Thx.

That word default is just in the title, you can edit it to change it if you wanr.

I used jUpgrade to migrate. It pulled over the commercial templates from 1.5 to 1.6. I manually deleted the files, and they do not show in the extension manager. However, they do show in the list of available templates. Any idea what's causing this? I checked for the language files to see if that was it, but they aren't there.

Yes, this happened to me as well. I could find no solution, and ended up manually removing them from the database using phpMyAdmin.

Don't know exactly how JUpgrade migrates templates, but if it did and you manually deleted them instead of using the Extension Manager, there can be some stuff remaining in the db.
Look in the __extensions table as well as in the __template_styles table.

Having the same trouble. Sorry to be such a noob here but can you tell me where to go to edit the: '__extensions table as well as in the __template_styles table' please. Thanks.

You need to go to your database. How you get there will depend on your host.

No those are your files, not your database. Please send a support ticket to your host asking how to access your database.
