Does anyone else post links to their site through facebook?

I used to be able to see a thumbnail with the post, then it was once in a while, now none are showing thumbnail previews. I think it makes your post more appealing and eye catching!

I have found sites stating to make sure the following is in the head section:

<link rel="image_src" href="http://mysite.com/image/logo.png" />

But I didn't use to have to have to do that and with Joomla, where is the head section is? I tried putting it at the top of the article for the page that I am linking with no success.

I've tried saving pictures to different directories, resizing... my image pulls fine into Digg so it seems likely to be a facebook thing.

Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions?

I just started having the same problem with Facebook not being able to find images on my Joomla site and place a thumbnail with the link I post to Fan Pages, etc.

This is a new problem -- within the last two weeks or so. Some sort of code must have been changed by Facebook that is now conflicting with Joomla.

I do not have this problem when posting links from other sites (NYT, etc.), only my own, joomla based site -- http://solarchargeddriving.com. All links I post from my site to Facebook no longer will appear with a thumbnail image. Facebook cannot find my images anymore.

Frustrating. Obviously, people are more likely to click on a link in their Facebook newsfeed that comes with a nice, grabbing thumbnail, than one without it.

I second 'f1ux': Anyone have a solution?

More and more posts, but still no answer -- except for the cryptic "link rel= img.src" suggestion, which was too vague to help.

Perhaps there's another thread in another joomla forum with a workaround for this issue. Does anyone know if there is?

one of facebooks requirements is that the page being linked includes the "link rel= img.src" tags, this is not a solution though as the tags are present within the source code.

I have sent Facebook a request to look in this, but may never hear back from them either.

There is not much info on this subject yet, I have searched and searched, this thread is the only related result that I have found.

Thank you for your post -- hope FB responds, though I'm a bit skeptical they will, like you are.

Why does no one seem to care about this problem? I'm guessing that there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people affected by this issue -- but no responses from any joomla experts.

I've been unable to figure out how to fix this issue on my own, and can't find anything on FB help that's helpful.

Please help us -- someone!

Thank you.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's a template issue. My site -- http://solarchargeddriving.com -- is built using Artisteer. Is that the case with others here -- are you using Artisteer to build your joomla templates?

I also noticed that images from joomla.org are being pulled by FB. For example, try pasting this URL into your FB newsfeed -- http://www.joomla.org/about-joomla/crea ... share.html

The image, or at least an image, is pulled by FB -- at least in my FB newsfeed it's being pulled in.

-->
It's definitely a template issue -- and possibly an Artisteer issue. I switched one of my site's pages to the "rhuk_milkyway" template, posted the link to the page to my FB newsfeed, and FB found the image and pulled it in.

It is an Artisteer issue -- and it appears to be specific to particular versions of Artisteer. I found a solution that worked for me here (at least so far!) -->

http://www.artisteer.com/Default.aspx?p ... orum_id=20

To save some of you the trip to the Artisteer forums, here's the solution that worked for me (Thank you so much to the guy who figured it out!)

here's his fix:
"Turns out that facebook doesn't like html span tags with just a space inside, which is what our menus are full off.

-->i fixed this by changing lines (line 32 for me) in /templates/../html/mod_mainmenu/default.php
was:

$lspan->setData(' ');

changed to:
$lspan->setData('&nbsp;');

Sorry to hear it doesn't work. I'd suggest looking around more, and posting, on the artisteer.com forums. Artisteer really should be more on top of this than they seem to be. The problem is affecting drupal, wordpress and joomla templates produced in artisteer.

The fix is a bit quirky for me. Sometimes multiple images will load in the FB newsfeed entry box that pops up initially. However, I can get rid of the extra images by clicking on the forward and back buttons. So, in the end, it does work for me, albeit with some minor hiccups...

I had same problem.This is update from artisteer forum that solved my problem:

So In addition to that fix. I also eliminated the space in the html/com_content/article/form.php file
from
<span class="art-button-wrapper">
<span class="l"> </span>
<span class="r"> </span>
TO

<span class="art-button-wrapper">
<span class="l">&nbsp;</span>
<span class="r">&nbsp;</span>

And the Function.php file
From
<span class="art-button-wrapper"><span class="l"> ;</span><span class="r"> </span>'

To:
<span class="art-button-wrapper"><span class="l">&nbsp;</span><span class="r">&nbsp;</span>
'

I have to say .. thank you!!!! it worked for me ;D

. I want to add that Facebook have 2 ways to share on the wall. 1. just typing the code into the "what´s on your mind" box, 2. select the "add link" icon below the box. I notice that when selecting the first one ALL the links I post have a thumbnail but if you select the second option and decide to use the "add link" button, most of the articles will not show thumbnail nor description. I am not an expert on php but i followed all the instuctions and my head was just about to explode trying to figure out why just some thumbnails were working untill I decided to use the first option and then.. ISSUE SOLVED.. over 4 hours of my day waisted so silly. :-[ (sorry for my english, I am not good in grammar)

so summary: AWESOME FIX :laugh: BUT WILL ONLY WORK COMPLETELY WHEN YOU WRITE THE LINK ON THE SHARING BOX, AND NOT WHEN SELECTING THE "ADD A LINK OPTION"

Finally figured out a legit work-around that is painless AND can be applied to individual pages.
NOTE: PNG files do not work for the Facebook thumbnail.

To create a link tag in header of your page for Facebook to link to, example:
Code:
<link rel="image_src" href="http://www.URL/image/image.jpg" />

1. Use with the Sourcer extension from http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/owner/NoNumber%21. This extension allows you to paste code within any article. Once the extension is installed in your article you place code within two tags
Code:
{source} {/source}
. Sometimes you may have to use brackets to enclose the code such as I had to do with the code below.

2. Next in your article content (I added it at the very beginning of my content), using the addHeadLink method for the JDocumentHTML class, within the Sourcer tags add
Code:
{source}
[[?php
$doc =& JFactory::getDocument();
$href = 'http://www.YOUR-URL/image-directory/image-name.jpg';
$doc->addHeadLink( $href, 'image_src', 'rel' );
?]]
{/source}

And holy mamas it worked.

DullJohhny it doesn't work for me :(

Maybe I should use "<meta property="og:tag name" content="tag value"/> " instead. How could I insert this via Sourcerer?

Have just started getting this problem too in the past few days.

I'm using a Rocket Theme on this particular site, but if I change to another tempalte still get the same problem.

Anything change with 1.5.23 that could of done this? Seems was around that time.

I'm also getting this problem on here http://freelancefryer.co.cc

I've tried adding the meta tag to the index.php file and this fix, to no avail...

I'm using Joomla 1.5

I added this:
Code:
<link rel="image_src" href="http://i53.tinypic.com/33e1qqh.jpg />

in my index.php and below '<jdoc:include type="head" />' in component.php AND I also did what DullJohnny said.

I don't know which of these fixed my problem lol, but I do know that none of them worked unless I turned SEF on in global config - good luck all :)

I cheated -- I broke down and stuck the image I wanted to have appear in the Facebook link post in an article on the front page and took the image size down to width="1" height="1". It's what I had to do because none of the other ideas worked for me.

you could just add display:none to the image class?
