Seen that issue on the board a while ago. You don't happen to be using Artisteer do you ? Afaik it has something to do with the template you're using

If you switch to Beez does it go away?

I think you maybe add by error a "1" in the "description" section of the category that list the articles

@mcsmom, even if i've switched to beez, it is also there.. @ greniers, i already check the category settings but the problem is not there.. the all options in the article options are 'hide' and 'no'.. so it is not supposed to post any thing above the article.. all articles in all categories have that number '1'..

Did you install an Articles header plugin ?

Maybe it is the voting plugin?

Check at the top category into description if you nested your category

I do not have another idea for now.

update to this problem.. when i put an article with the date, the number '1' disappeared.. so i conclude that the number '1' only appears when it has no details such as the date.. but i still need to get rid of this number '1' because not all articles have their details. please see my site at this address: http://jargogle.co.cc/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=18&Itemid=143 this is the blog where number '1' does not appear, please compare it to the other articles. i hope that you could help me with this. thank you!

For me, it was the plugin "Content-kunena discuss" which was just updated a few days ago.

Hi Guys - just to add a comment - I had this issue appear when trying to tack down the issue with the word "article" appearing on a page not linked to a menu. I found the cure for this but during trying to get rid of it I had set the "show intro text" option in globals to hide. Turned it back on and presto the pesky #1 has disappeared.
