remove the "we are volunteers"??

General questions relating to Joomla! 2.5. Note: All 1.6 and 1.7 releases have reached end of life and should be updated to 2.5. There are other boards for more specific help on Joomla! features and extensions.

remove the "we are volunteers"??

Post by CharlesR » Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:23 am

How do I remove the "we are volunteers" from the header? I like that blue box will keep it. I'm using Joomla 1.6 Is it possible from within the administrators site?

The text "We are Volunteers" you are seeing is a part of the header image. The image file is personal2.png located in the directory /templates/beez_20/images/personal.

So, to remove the text, you have to edit that image file.

Can you please explain how I do that? In newbie terms, preferably. :) In my search for something else I found a video about it, but I cannot remember where that was now?! Plus I'm hearing impaired, so unless a video has captions (which very few on the web do :() it is impossible for me to understand them.

You could use any image editing software such as paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/) to edit the image file.

Oh, I see, that I can easily do. I thought you meant edit the files, something like that that I see mentioned often in here (via ftp, etc.).

Question: If I actually edit the banner (replace it entirely would be my my preference) , then how do I get the dimensions of what that one is to replace? I ask this because I did indeed try to replace it per instructions given with the one I had, however the measurements of my banner were different, thus everything was skewed. it looked terrible.

In Windows environment, in Windows Explorer, select/highlight the image, right click, choose the option Properties, click on the Details tab in the window that has pop'd up. You will see all the information about the image file.

You cannot access this file through the Administrator section. You could use the cPanel of your host services to get to this file.

Thanks for the answer. Does it mean that we have to have direct access to the file system to create a Joomla! website ?
Would it make sense to provide access to the files from the Administration "section" ? Or integrate cPanel into the Joomla! editor ?

Keep up the good councel.

For some of the items, going though cPanel would be much easier.

There is no need to use cPanel to create web-sites using Joomla! However, when one tries to customize it then there could be a need to go outside of Joomla! For example, if you want to edit an image, it is not possible to do it from within Joomla! Each software is specialized in one thing they do and we could make best use of those capabilities.

You could try some of the extensions in the File Management section of the Joomla! Extensions Directory (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... management).

Hope this makes sense.
