Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
I had the same question - thanks, Leo, for the helpful link.
2 comments though - the suggested link begins "htp" - it only works as "http".
Also, the post suggests "downloads" as a folder name - this works but other names work too - which is nice, to be able to name multiple folders differently, to organize content. It does seem to need to be within the "image/stories/[new folder] section though.

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
I cannot get the embedpdf plugin to be seen by Joomla. So I've done this workaround until I figure it out. I added text and linked it to the pdf...it downloads good...just looks unprofessional on screen.

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
I have written an embed plugin for Joomla 1.5 and it works like a charm!
If you are interest, you can download it at
http://heinelt.info/index.php?option=co ... &Itemid=50
With my plugin, you can use Adobe Reader, or Google viewer to display your pdf in Joomla 1.5.
a whole bunch of settings can be done with this plugin!
Just try it!

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
Here's a nice way to embed a PDF into Joomla.
1. Open a free account with Scribd http://www.scribd.com
2. Upload your PDF
3. You can then get an embed code for that PDF (just click on the uploaded PDF you will see all the share options, one says emded), copy that.
4. Go back to Joomla, backend article manager, open an article, open the html editor (I use the excellent JCR editor) then paste the embed code here.
5. Hit save and your PDF magically gets embedded right in the article.
BTW Don't edit the code from the front end, you have to be back end and at least a manager level. Otherwise it strips out the scripts from the article. You then can just back to Scribd and update that PDF.

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
This problem was driving me crazy. I've tried both Enbed PDF and Edocs extensions. Neither worked for my applications (returned errors or caused a conflict with other extensions).
However, I've found a relatively simple solution that works great:
1) Install ModulesAnywhere: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... clude/6402
2) Create a Wrapper Module (Modules > New > Wrapper).
Show Title: NO
Position: (Anything; I like to choose an unused position.)
Menu Assignment: NONE (This is important.)
URL: /images/folder/file.pdf
Scroll Bars: Auto
Width: 480 (width of your content area, or size to fit your module)
Height: 700 (approximate for 8.5x11 PDF in content area; adjust as needed)
SAVE.
3) Insert the module in an ARTICLE using the ModulesAnywhere button at the bottom of the content editor.
Obviously, you could also just position it in a module (e.g. left column, etc.), but I know a lot of us want to put it in an article in the main content area.
God bless,
Teresa

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
Thank you so much cocoo(Maik). Your plugin really helped. I had tried another one, which others had lauded with many praises, but I couldn't get it to work. Yours was so easy and worked with my relative path using my media manager folder, the other one wouldn't.
I was at first going to use Scribd as another used mentioned(at it does look nice that way). But I like your plugin better as users stay on my site and there's no other branding.
Keep up the good work, maybe you can add some more features to it in the future (e.g. height and width as percentages, slideshow of pdf's, or maybe allow user to have a folder of pdf's, first one loads and person can flip through like slideshow).

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
I just figure it out! It seems that if you are using any other editor other than JCE(I was using TinyMCE) it gives you a random width that you are not able to fix anywhere, try using JCE it worked for me.

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
Well, the wrapper solution (posted above) worked great - in Firefox, but not quite so good in IE. It displays the PDF just fine in both, but the dropdown menu hides behind the wrapper in IE.
I tried using z-index to bring the menu on top (z-index: 50) and push the wrapper under it (z-index: -10), but that hasn't worked.
Anyone have suggestions?
Teresa

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
Hi ballin2win. Welcome to the forum!
For a link in an article, you make a link (enter the text, select it, click on the link icon, enter the address (e.g. images/pdfs/filename.pdf) and set the Target as "Open in new window." Since the PDF isn't an article, you'll have to manually enter the address in the URL.
If you want it in the menu, you can use an external link (menu > external link) and insert the full address (e.g. (http://domain.ext/images/pdfs/filename.pdf)
These instructions work for Joomla 1.5. Later versions may differ in procedure.

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
I use http://www.StatCounter.com for almost all my sites. They have a "Downloads" link that shows the number of downloads for PDFs and other files. It's easy and free; they have a paid version if you need more.bli_wedhooz wrote:

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
Hi, if someone needs to insert PDF or another file format I recommand to use the extension:
ARI Docs Viewer (non-commercial)
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ased/16126
works very well, try the different engine: google, zoho or Iframe in all browsers. in my case worked in all browsers the zoho option.

Re: how to insert a pdf file into joomla
Hi
New user trying to embed a PDF file in a Joomla web page article.
Downloaded the ext PDF plugin 'PDF Embed'.
Following the instructions I entered the suggested code as follows
{pdf=http://www.kirkleegate.co.uk/files/pdf/ ... df|500|300}
www.kirkleegate.co.uk - being my site address and
img021 - being the file I want to embed
Don't have the knowledge to know where I am going wrong.
Anyone take me out a hole?
Thanks
DC
