Hi,

tired to install AcyMail for trying it. After opening nearly every directory, and for sure each directory wanted from Acy, this is the last Error that I cant solve. No further informations. The admin-directory is FULLY opend yet, each sub-directory also. It is the last and only error - Acy is there, but I have to go to it by direct link - no menu. So it is installed "hidden"...

Searching for three hours now, so I need some "fresh" suggestions...

Joomla 1.6.0 German

Thanks in advance!
Joerg

What version of Acy are you using? I think their 1.7.0 release is the first Joomla! 1.6 compatible release.

Acy 1.7.2 - the latest from January 22nd. Native Joomla 1.6.0

I don't know, what Joomla does at the time of the installation. I had several miss-installations due to folder-rights. All deinstalled and checked the server-folders. They are all 777 now. At each attempt of re-install this errormessage appears... It is just the menue-link, that misses. Maybe database-fault, maybe script-fault? The site works, also installed an other plugin just for testing. All OK, and clean deinstallation after it. So the system itself seems to work.

I got the same problem trying my own component. After reinstalling Joomla 1.6 the problem was solved without changing the component.

Thanks. Done this also. Still the same... It will install completly - but not the admin-menus. It is a "hidden installation" of this mailer. And I could not get any further information out of it, where the problem is. THIS makes me crazy.

Its me again.

I set up a clean page in a subdomain to test it. It works. It is not "fine", there are some Problems with FTP-Connection, but it worked. Acy installed clean with admin-menu.

De- and Installed it several times -> everything OK.

BUT: After re-import the DB from the site I want to have, the error was there again.

Any suggestions where to start, without dumping the whole site-structure and contend? Was a lot of work whole last week I do not want to trash :->

It turned out to be the jos_menu-table. But: how to find the fault? repair table does not fix it.

I submitted a ticket at rsjoomla (the rsform guys).
They replied:
"...This is a bug in Joomla! 1.6 that is caused by the fact that you tried to install a version of the component that was not compatible with that Joomla! version..."

To me it seems that this is just an effect of non-compatibility of older extensions.
The 1.5-table "jos_components" is gone and there is a 1.6-table "jos_extensions" now.

Everything works fine if you use the old links like .../administrator/index.php?option=com_rsform&task=forms.manage

We will have to wait until the porblems have been fixed - or fix them ourselves.

Salut

Hi,

sorry, that I did not post my solution:

In jos_menu where old and "dead" entries of acy due to failled installations because of miss-configuration of the folders-rights. I exported all DB-tables and visited them in an editor. I picked the faulty entries out carefully. Then I completly trunked the DB on the server and re-imported the repaired DB-tables. After that I let them "rebuild" in Backend Menu-Section. To be sure I did it for each menu and then the top-menu. I think, one time is enough, but I wanted to be on the secure site ;->

It works fine now, installation of acy wasn't a problem after that. For trying out, save a copy of your last working DB...

btw: acymailing 7.0.2 is 1.6.0-compatible - they say. And now it works - without faults.

Regards,
Joerg

Hi Joerg, after reading your post I deleted the RSform entries from the jos_menu table in phpMyAdmin. Than I used the Discover and Install in J!1.6 again and this time it worked okay.

Thanks, Tom

I had the same problem with one of my extensions on a clean 1.6.0 site. Installing the extension always gave the error, "Error building Admin Menus". Uninstalling gave the error, "Could not delete the administrator menus.". No amount of uninstalling and reinstalling fixes the problem. The only solution was to manually delete the menu entries from jos_menu:

delete FROM `jos_menu` where title like "COM_MYEXTENSION%"

After that, everything worked fine.

Sorry, I can't identify what caused the problem in the first place. If it happens again and I figure it out I will post here.

I'm having the same problem installing Xmap on Joomla 1.7 ( http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... e-map/3066)

Even though in the JED it says its 1.7 compatible it clearly isn't!

Thank you all.
I was also having this issue after trying to install an older version of Mooj Proforms on 1.7. I simply deleted the item in the jos_menu that refered to the com_proforms and hey presto all working.
This is good to know for future possible issues.

This message basically happens because if an installation fails, a proper cleanup doesn't occur and the not installed extension's menu entry is left in place. Nicholas D., the Akeeba Backup developer, has a workaround to this in his extensions' installers which basically checks for the #__menu entry and deletes it as necessary.

This never happened in Joomla 1.5. In my opinion it is a bug in Joomla 1.6/1.7.

You're right, it is a bug. A lot changed between 1.5 and 1.6, introducing new bugs along the way. Some have taken longer to get fixed, but hopefully a core solution will be made soon. In the meantime, a third party solution is available for all developers to use in their installation scripts to prevent this error (I'm using it and a long time person who had this issue with my component no longer does).

It's not a jos_menu table issue!

I have the same problem now for days and there's nothing to do with the jos_menu table, simple because when I go to install the component it doesn't write any entry in this table. And I got always the same error message.
No entrys in the jos_menu table to cancel, no files uploaded to the sever. Just other tables needed by the component created. ERROR BUILDING ADMIN MENUS

It's a bug for sure and is really frustrating. I'm really getting desperated. If someone found a workaround for this, please share with us.

I ran into this myself, it seems to be something to do with the menu element of the components install manifest xml.

Code:
<administration>

      <menu link="option=com_example" view="main">EXAMPLE_NAME</menu>

      <languages folder="administrator/language/en-GB">
         <language tag="en-GB">en-GB.com_example.sys.ini</language>
      </languages>

    </administration>

I think you need to have the "EXAMPLE_NAME" constant defined in the "en-GB.com_example.sys.ini" file or it throws the error - that is what seemed to happen with me.

I came across this error again while working on a component and found that it was due to the root of the admin menu having been somehow deleted. So if all the above fails have a look at your jos_menu (where jos_ is your database table prefix) table.

You should have a record in this table with id=1 and title=Menu_Item_Root if not this has somehow been deleted and you need to add it again. If you are feeling brave you can run the query below (remember to replace jos_ with your database table prefix):

Code:
INSERT INTO `jos_menu`
VALUES ( 1, '', 'Menu_Item_Root', 'root', '', '', '', '', 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, '0000-00-00 00:00:00', 0, 0, '', 0, '', 0, 281, 0, '*', 0 ) ;

Happy coding!

I think I have found a solution for this problem "Error building Admin Menu" when installing a module or component. In my case I experienced it when an installation was disrupted and then started again that this error showed up. After reading a couple of forum posts I figured out that I had to delete ALL entries related to that module/component in the #_menu table. After doing that and reinstallation of the module/component the error disappeared and the missing menu entry appeared.

So use your phpMyAdmin edit your #_menu table and carefully delete only entries related to the module/component creating this problem, then reinstall it and everything should be fine.

THANKS I REGISTED AN ACCOUNT JUST FOR TELLING YOU GOOD JOB!!

In my case is installing djimageslider, and after read your solution, I had my component and module uninstalled, and deleted related entries from the phpAdmin (jos_menu) which in the last page(the latest entries if that was your latest component installation)

Then reinstall it again, it works! never error again!

Thank you

Agreed with the last poster, thanks for the input on that one. I was having a nightmare with the Community Builder menus. I saw the entries in phpmyadmin all in BLOCKS CAPITALS.

I wiped them out, re-installed and it's all working again.

Thanks again. 8)

I had a similar problem with SH404SEF, I removed any references to it in **_menu and it then installed successfully
