When using the Updater Extension... I select the 1.7.1 update, click Update, and the screen just goes blank. Any ideas? My system is a fresh 1.7 install. Not an upgrade from earlier versions.

Try turning site debug on, or enabling errors-display, and in all case checking apache error logs:
We have a FAQ for blank screens in joomla, named "Blank page, white page, nothing, just nothing" that might help further.

*update* I was able to update successfully on both sites after I turned off FTP, chown'ed the entire Joolma install to nobody:nobody, updated successfully, chown'ed back to my FTP username and turned FTP back on. I'm not sure why I couldn't use the FTP to update (it's worked with previous updates and even when I chown'ed the entire install to the ftp username it still would give the copy error). */update*

*update2*With a third 1.7 install (which started as 1.6.0) the update worked without any issues (with FTP on).*/update2*

I've also receiving this error. I've attempted the update on 2 1.7.0 sites. Both have all the "Directory Permissions" directories as "Writable". I've tried with the FTP turned on and off and I've tried the update from the "Update" tab (instead of uploading the zip). All attempts on both sites gave this error. Looking in the /tmp dir I see the zip file was successfully uploaded and un-archived into an "install_######" subfolder.

One of these sites started as 1.5.x and the other started at 1.6.0 and neither has issues with the updates before. I'm continuing to try other attempts at this update at the moment.

This is because your localhost catches the strict standards issues.

change in your php.ini
to
error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE

I have an issue I like to have help,
1. Update to 1.7.1 was fine, thanks
2. when I go into update in the Extension manager I read:There are no updates available at the moment. Please check again later.
when I click on "find updates" I get "XML error: syntax error at line 1"
How can this be fixed?
Thanks

Hello,
I upgraded from j1.7 to j1.7.1. Everything worked fine. I looked for the new multilanguage status module, which I found already aktivated! and it appears only in the administrator, not in the module listing. And it does not appear on top in the administrator status bar. So what can I do? Was very curios regarding this module because my side rans with 3 languages.
Thanks
Siggi

Could you try 'Purge Updates" first, then "Find Updates" ?

I hope this helps:
I detected under warnings the following:
1.The PHP temporary directory is not set
The PHP temporary directory is the directory that PHP uses to store an uploaded file before Joomla! can access this file. Whilst the directory not being set isn't always a problem, if you are having issues with manifest files not being detected or uploaded files not being detected, setting this in your php.ini file might fix the issue.
2. The value of the upload_max_filesize in the php.ini file is greater than the post_max_size variable. The post_max_size variable will take precedence here and block requests larger than it. This is generally a server misconfiguration when trying to increase upload sizes. Please increase the upload_max_filesize to at least match the post_max_size variable or vice versa

this seems to be a server misconfig indeed and you need to contact your hosting provider and inform them of the warnings. They should rectify this (should not even happen)

Dear Jean-Marie,
thanks for the link, I read him before I updated to 1.7.1. As I wrote above, the installation worked fine but the item does not show up in the administration board as mentioned in the articel. The module is activated. It was actualy automaticly activated. I didn´t have to do anything. I deactivated and reactivated hoping that this might help, but nothing. So how can I work with that module without the item? Something went wrong I supose.
Thanks for you time
Best
Siggi

Are you sure you went to the MODULE MANAGER and not the EXTENSIONS MANAGER=>MANAGE?

A module is published or not in the module manager.

Have you filtered by location ADMINISTRATOR in the module manager?

Hello Jean-Marie,
yes I filtered by location, but it tells me location not known. So the module is there but I don´t know where. Any idea?
Best

Location not known? Never heard of that.
Can you take a screen shot of the module manager showing the error and attach here?

Sorry, I got it going. You where right, I had to search the module within the module manager. My mistake was, when I couldn´t find the module in the module manager I went to the extensions manager, where I found it. Sorry again and thanks a lot for your help. Best Siggi

This is adding the scaffolding to prepare for CLI installations : Command Line Interface Installations(http://www.joomla.org/announcements/rel ... eased.html)
