Changing Bluestork

Post by uaintgotthisid » Tue Oct 18, 2011 8:55 pm

Hey I decided to have a crack at modifying Bluestork.

I copied the folder, renamed it and then put it in the admin/templates folder.

All seemed fine. I edited the xml file and put references to myself in there.

Then I searched throughout the files and changed all references of Bluestork to my new template name in preparation for major hacking about with the CSS etc to make it look different.

I got stuck instantly however. It doesn't seem to recognise the styles any more.

If I choose templates, template. I see my template, my name and such, but if I choose templates, styles, I don't see any of the old bluestork files.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

.
BlueStork is so annoying I also made a modified version.
Called this new template LessAnnoyingStork. :D

You need to change:
- XML file name
- template <name> in the XML file
- template <description> language key in the XML file
- some more language keys in the XML file (starting down around line 54)
- language file names
- language keys in the language files
That should give you a working template.

I have only changed the template.css file.

Some of the changes:
- reduced the visual noise level and improved the visual hierarchy
- removed the weird hover on the control panel icons (what the heck is that supposed to be?)
- removed the excessive spacing on the parameter settings
- labels now look like labels, not like all other text
- input fields now look like input fields, not like all other text
- required fields now look like required fields, and more similar to other input fields
- list highlights now look like highlights, not like one of the other rows
- buttons now look like buttons, not like all other text

Advanced interface design concepts for sure.
<roll-eyes>

And now it is a LessAnnoyingStork template.
Originally I changed an early 1.6.x template and there have been some changes to BlueStork since then.
Worked on it a few days ago, but I have not finished re-doing the newer 1.7.1 template 100% yet.
But it is not as annoying to look at everyday.
Perhaps I should finish it and post it somewhere for download.

I would like to know what you will be changing.
Perhaps we could merge some of the fixes.

Lol amusing post

Definitely something I'd be interested in having a look at.

Hmmm.. I'm sure I have changed all of those files... darn it let me look again. I literally used Dreamweaver to change all instances of BlueStork in the whole folder... I'll check again obviously something is wrong.

It took me a little while but I changed the:

Folder name
XML template details (most of it)
Language > file names
Language > .ini files
paramaters.ini file (I think, not sure if it was required)

Strangely I have a feeling that some of this may be dreamweavers fault... I'll have to check again, I note that it said it would change some things and then did not change them. Grrr says I!
