Allowing Registered users access to offline site
As far as I can see only Super Users can get access to a site when it's offline. After searching I found few people suggesting to edit the application.php file, but that causes the Adminstrators group to also be able to login (and edit), no other groups.
Other suggestions (workarounds) would be to create a custom homepage for login and combine it with an Access level.
The best and most simple option seems to me if there could be an option availible within: Global configuration > Permissions > have an extra option for each group to be able to view an offline site.
Something for a future Joomla update?!
Does anyone has other suggestions?
many thanks.

Re: Allowing Registered users access to offline site
I've been using the workaround by editing /includes/application.php
But that doesn't work any more for Joomla 1.7
Does anyone know another way to have registered users view an offline site in Joomla 1.7?
Many thanks.

Never mind, this has been added into Global configuration > Permissions (in Joomla 1.7)
Many thanks to the Joomla Team for this add!

Re: Allowing Registered users access to offline site
Can you please clarify on how to achieve this?
In Global Configuration I set permissions for "Registered" to show Site Login = Allowed - still, I can't login with a registered user.
What am I missing?
Thanks!

Re: Allowing Registered users access to offline site
as i remember you have to mess with public acces restrictions:
Site Login allow
admin login denie
offline acces not set
than
registred acces
Site Login allow
Admin Login denie
Offline Access allow
worked for me
