Sorry for the delay -been busy rebuilding my server.

If you haven't already figured out how to delete yvcomment from your jos_menu table, here's a short video on how to use phpMyAdmin to do so (of course you will have to have phpMyAdmin installed on your server, otherwise use whatever database manager is available to you).

Hi Yuri

Many Thanks for your sophisticated plugin! Unfortunalla I found two bugd in the current Version 2.004. I'm using Joomla 1.7.2

1) After installung the comment-plugin and configuration, you see nothing at all in the frontend. No evidence of existance!

My Workaround: In the backend, open the plugin "content - yvcomment" and chance the rights to "Only registred". Login the frontend and add ONE "Test"-Comment. After that go back to the backend and chance the rights to "Public Access"

2) The "Position of comments in other views" does not work correctly for featured articles (Module Newsflash). E.g. you choose "Below Article box" (default) " it shows up like that:
------------
TITLE OF THE ARTILE

Add comments (4) ....

TEXT OF ARTICLE
--------
The Comments should show up BELOW the Text of Article, don't they? The outer opts (Inside Box, Defined by templete) don't work at all.

This bug is not vycomments-specific! I have tryed Udja-Comments which has the same problem. Conclusion: Something changed from Joomla 1.6 to Joomla 1.7

Workaround for me: Add a read-more Link under the Text of Article. yv-comments works correctly on the Article-Page.

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to figure out a way on how unregistered user can view the comments that is published in mod_yvcomment. In the current setup, user will need to log in first to see those comments in restricted articles(only registered user can view). As a result, you can only see empty space in that module. I'm using 1.5.22.

Thanks

Hi Yuri,

Thank you for this great plug-in, i did install it and it works fine.

There's only one issue; when i add comment on article including a video using AllVideos plug-in (JoomlaWorks) i got the following error message ; Fatal error: Class 'JParameter' not found in C:\wamp\www\Lafraja.com\plugins\content\jw_allvideos\jw_allvideos.php on line 76
but comment is inserted to DB, you can see it in print screen in attachement.

Hope i'll get a help to solve this issue

Best regards

Hi Yuri, first may I say this is an awesome commenting system. Once my site is up and running I will gladly donate to have you remove the hidden link.

My questions are:

1. Where do you edit the title, Add a Comment, as on the site I am using this title is not right?

Also can I duplicate the plugin two times and rename each time to say: Synopsis and Violation. This would mean I would have 3 comment fields per article all named different and assigned to special members.

Is this possible as then this would be absolutely perfect for me.

I believe it could be come very poplar at many Joomla sites.

To help you improve this: I had a small issue while installing it (Using the SVN version, 7404 current version)
The language files didn't install for the component as well the plugin.
See below.

Code:
Component install
        * Copy failed
        * JInstaller::install: Failed to copy file: /var/www/ipg.lan/joomla15/htdocs/tmp/install_46482f210e9f8/www/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_yvcomment.ini to /var/www/ipg.lan/joomla15/htdocs/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_yvcomment.ini
        * Copy failed

Plugin install

        * JInstaller::install: Failed to copy file: /var/www/ipg.lan/joomla15/htdocs/tmp/install_46482f3b14353/www/administrator/language/en-GB/en-GB.plg_content_yvcomment.ini to /var/www/ipg.lan/joomla15/htdocs/administrator/language/en-GB/en-GB.plg_content_yvcomment.ini

Plugin uninstall
        * Delete failed: 'en-GB.plg_content_yvcomment.ini'
        * Delete failed: 'ru-RU.plg_content_yvcomment.ini'

Component uninstall
        * Delete failed: 'en-GB.com_yvcomment.ini'
        * Delete failed: 'ru-RU.com_yvcomment.ini'
        * Delete failed: 'fa-IR.com_yvcomment.ini'
        * Delete failed: 'en-GB.com_yvcomment.ini'
Message
        * Uninstall component: Success

After manual creating the 3 en-GB language files the text seems to be ok in the Plugin settings.
Uninstall still fails, even on the en-GB files.

In my first test I used the Content Table, but I didn't like the Latest News to be comments :) so I changed the setting to No.
After posting a comment:
Code:
Database errors:
Error message: "Table 'joomla15.jos_yvcomment' doesn't exist SQL=INSERT INTO jos_yvcomment ( `title`,`alias`,`fulltext`,`state`,`sectionid`,`catid`,`created`,`created_by`,`checked_out`,`checked_out_time`,`version`,`parentid`,`ordering` ) VALUES ( 'Goed artikel','goed-artikel','Dus doet hij het?','1','5','33','2007-05-14 09:47:06','62','0','0','1','18','1' )"
SQL="INSERT INTO jos_yvcomment ( `title`,`alias`,`fulltext`,`state`,`sectionid`,`catid`,`created`,`created_by`,`checked_out`,`checked_out_time`,`version`,`parentid`,`ordering` ) VALUES ( 'Goed artikel','goed-artikel','Dus doet hij het?','1','5','33','2007-05-14 09:47:06','62','0','0','1','18','1' )"

Table 'joomla15.jos_yvcomment' doesn't exist. Correct, it doesn't excist. The table was Table 'joomla15.jos_yvComment' doesn't exist
After renaming the jos_yvComment to jos_yvcomment the error was gone :)

Also I encountered some problems with HTML tags. Few examples:
Code:
Working:
<i>Test</i>
<b>Test</b>
<h2>Heading</h2>

Not working:
<hr>
<br>

The not working HTML-tags are loading the page forever.

Some requests, a few are already mentioned here.
More requests means more people who want it to be implemented :) So thats not a bad thing.
  • (Simplyfied?) TinyMCE
  • Anti-Flood (Press the Post button a few times and the message is in the database a few times)
  • Time-between-posts, also a form of anti-flood
  • Guest posting with Captcha
  • Backend admin instead of front-end

Keep up the good work!

OMG, great work!

Hello - I am using your yvcomment addon for Joomla 1.6, and needed a bit of help trying to fix a problem in using it...

My problem is that I need to reset the configuration of the plugin to disallow comments on one particular category of articles - and/or one single article. The plugin and modules are FULLY functional on my site with absolutely no problems in working... so I know the plugin and modules are THERE. But, when I go to find them in the plugin manager to reset my configuration options, I can't find the plugin in it at all, even by the ID number. I can find it in the "manage" area under Extensions manager - and it says it's a plugin and gives me the name and ID number... but I can't edit it from that screen other than to enable or disable it (it is enabled..) and can't find it in the actual Plugins Manager by name OR by ID.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Or is this a problem with Joomla in general?

I don't expect to have any problems making the changes in configuration that I need to make, once I find where I can do that. I just need help locating the plugin or module that will give me the configuration options to disallow comments on one article or a category of them and can't seem to find an answer for this anywhere.

Hi Addy,
I think your database is corrupted, so first thing be sure to create full backup.
Next simplest step is to uninstall yvComment Plugin only and then install it again.

Hi Yuri,

I just came across your brilliant commenting system - I'm really happy with it. :)
There's one thing I am missing though: Delete your own comments! I have to add that I jumped onto the Joomla 1.6 train right 2 months ago, so maybe I have overlooked something ... at least I was unable to find an ACL option like "delete own". Since setting the standard ACL Delete to allowed on the comments' category would mean: I'm allowed to delete comments of other members, too. Not good.

So, my idea was to change the condition in ActionAllowed to
"if ($action == 'core.edit' || $action == 'core.delete' && ($commentId !=0))"
and this way accomplish a "delete own" on the fly by simply setting "edit own" to allowed.

Kind regards.
michael

Hi Michael,
yes, allowing delete own comment if edit own is allowed looks like a logical solution to this Joomla 's restriction.
Solution that you propose in fact means wider thing: allow delete if allow edit is allowed?!

My advice is to modify that "component for group buying" so that each its "item" has corresponding "Joomla article" ;) . So that "component for group buying" will effectively "extend" Joomla Article.
This way you may have ANY content plugin for your "items"...

Hi XXN, Romanian language pack was not updated for Joomla v.1.6+
Please do this based on existing language pack + English language pack template

Hi! I tried, but could not find the solution of the problem. May be you can understand me and help me.

The problem with the same title. Users have nothing (no error report, just preview of comment) when they are trying to publish a comment with the same title, as someone previous title. I know what the problem deals with alias, Joomla requires unique aliases. But I don't know how to enable the unique alias of comment.

Do you have a solution for unique aliases in your plugin?

Hi AsH4,
"Unique alias" requirement is Joomla!'s architectural decision, so this is not a technical problem... but I looked into the code and see that current Repository version of yvComment has a solution for this:
Quote:
v.2.00.005 XX-XXX-2011 yvolk
^Solved "Another article from this category has the same alias" problem, which occurred when two comments with the same subject were posted. Now yvComment automatically finds unused alias adding digits to the comment's alias.

It wasn't released yet, but you may download it manually, see here:
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/yvcomment/scmsvn/?action=browse&path=%2F

Thank you Yuri! It works, great job!
I just replaced the code in two files (helpers.php and comment.php).

It would be nice to see references to the registration and login page in the text "Please register or login"(smth like that). But it's a small suggestion for the future...

If you connect article with component (I mean if you have one article for each item of your component), you will have ability to make comments on that articles. Effectively you will have comments on your component's items.
This doesn't require any modifications to yvComment.

Is this what you meant?

I guess I didn't explain well what I mean by integration between custom Component and Joomla, which allows to have comments in the Component.
1. Component should create new Joomla article for each of its items.
E.g. if the Component is "Photo Gallery". It may put title and description of the Photo in corresponding fields of the Joomla Article. Image file itself and some additional attributes are stored separately, linked with this Article and managed by the Component.
2. Articles, "extended" by the Component, should be put in separate Joomla category (for convenience)
3. In order to show to the User a Photo with ability to show and add comments Component should have custom "Article page". For the Gallery example it's enough to add to the stock Joomla Article layout (template) code presenting the Photo.

That's all.

Such "extending " of Joomla Articles by custom Component has for free everything available for Articles from Joomla core and from many extensions (including content plugins). Including search, classification (subcategories ...) and permissions...

Hello,

I'm trying to use yvComment (it looks great!) but cannot get it working at all on the front end of my site.

None of my articles are offering to add comments at the bottom. I've even added a comment article expliclty and cannot see this at the bottom of my articles either.

So first off are there any other tutorials on getting this component/plugin to work other than http://yurivolkov.com/Joomla/yvComment/index_en.html ?

I'm using Joomla 1.6.6 with yvComment 2.0.4. I have installed the plugin ok and the component. I haven't installed the module as this is optional according to the docs.

I've created the "comment" category, a "guest" user, and set up the plug in as per the instructions.

Are there any other clues? Do I need to do anything special in my articles or with the "comment" category in order to get this working?

Thanks,

LL

@LL Login as admin and see if "Add comment" link appeared.
If yes - you didn't set permissions properly.
Please read anything about Joomla permissions.

Aha! now we're getting somewhere. Yes, when I log in as admin on the front end I can add and see comments.

Great thanks for this, I'll keep persevering.

Hi,

First many thanks to the author for providing us with such a great and free plugin! And respect for still having the energy to be available to respond to questions ;)

The problem I have is not displaying the proper number of comments. As if the comments counter could not see threaded 'comments on comments'.
I mean, they are all displayed properly once you open the article, but I have only article summaries in front page, with the number of comments displayed below the article - and this number is wrong, because for some reason it doesn't include comments on comments in threads.

I wonder if it's some feature of the plugin that I can't figure out, or it's about me not being able to apply correct settings for joomla articles.

Yes, this is a "feature" :) . Comments on comments not counted for the reason of system's performance and ease of development: calculation in the tree of comments is not scalable. Ideally the counting should be done ahead, stored somewhere (in the separate table, Content table has no field(s) for this) and recalculated on each change...

Hello, Yuriy Volkov! In first I should say that your extension is really very good. Or more - it is the best free article comments extension for modern versions of Joomla. But I have one problem: it doesn't work with KeyCaptcha. When I use KeyCaptha the "Send" button displais without any text and doesn't work. And after clicking the "Preview" button system show error message and comment doesn't publish. :(
With disabled KeyCaptcha all work perfectly. Please, recommend me, what should I do. And maybe there is another Captcha plugin for Joomla 1.7 whith will work with yvComments? Thanks.
