Hello
Can anyone please tell me how I can upgrade from 1.5.23 to 1.5.25 as I can't see the relevant upgrade package in the upgrades page.

The only packages available are 1.5.24 to 1.5.25 and 1.5.0 to 1.5.25

Any help would be appreciated

It seems there is no package to upgrade directly from 1.5.23 to 1.5.25
But you can first upgrade to 1.24
and then from 1.5.24 to 1.5.25

Download the packages here: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... tion=index

Thanks for the help
I have also been told you can install http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... llers/9332 for 1.5 sites and just use the full package when asked.

I was able to upgrade from 1.5.23 to 1.5.25 using the update module for two of my three Joomla installs. The upgrade module (this is a contributed extension that you can install which makes upgrading Joomla a snap - usually) typically installs the xx to xx when they are in consecutive order. It looks like Joomla team jumped a version here. I never got notice of a ver 1.5.24. In any case, since it does not apparently exist, the update module goes to the full install and runs that. On two of the three installs this worked fine, but on one of them, I cannot get the upgrade to work. I tried the Upload/Install method, and that does not work. Not sure what is happening with this particular installation. I've got a message into the hosting manager, but thought I might be able to find something here.

I am going to answer my own question.

There is a 1.5.23 to 1.5.24 patch available. Look elsewhere in this forum for info on how to locate it in the archives.

I had forgotten how to do updates manually the old-fashioned way using FTP. I guess I had come to rely on the Update Manager module too much.

Quick refresher (and info for newbies). To do the upgrade from one version to another, download the patch (e.g., 1.5.23 to 1.5.24) and UNZIP it in an empty directory on your desktop. They, put the Joomla installation into Site Offline mode (Using Global Configuration). I skip the "make a backup" step since I have the whole site backed up by the host. Then using a standard FTP client, upload and overwrite those directories and files that come from the unzipped patch right to your live web server. Put the site back on-line and check everything to make sure it works. You will notice the the back end administrative panel should show that your version has been updated (see version number in the upper right hand corner of your screen).

If you are going from 1.5.23 to 1.5.25 - you will have to do this with the 1.5.24 patch and then the 1.5.25 patch. I know a PITA, but that's it.

BTW, updating is much easier in Joomla version 1.7. One of the incentives to migrate up.

Akeeba's Admin Tools is a great extension for 'almost' painless upgrades.

1.5.0 to 1.5.25 update package covers updates for all 1.5 versions. You can also use the 1.2.5 full package and upload all except the /installation folder.

Not so much of a hassle doing the upgrade from 1.5.23 to 1.5.25. I downloaded to the full package of 1.5.25 from this link -- http://www.joomla.org/download.html... then here's what I did.

1. I first tried this upgrade in my localhost (using wampserver). Put the site on "maintenance" mode.
2. Unpacked the full package of 1.5.25 into a separate folder; say c:\temp\joomla1.5.25
3. Opened my folder where my joomla 1.5.23 exists - e.g. c:\wamp\joomla1.5.23
4. Copied or moved all the files/folders EXCEPT THE "installation" FOLDER under c:\temp\joomla1.5.25 into the c:\wamp\joomla1.5.23 folder.
5. Ran the localhost again and disabled the "maintenance" mode.
6. The upgrade went smoothly without any hitch.

I'm going to upgrade my joomla 1.5.23 at my online site and come back here to report my joy or my sadness. I hope this helps.

My upgrade for my joomla 1.5.23 online site to joomla 1.5.25 went without any problems in less than 5 miniutes. I followed the same procedure as in my previous post with SOME DIFFERENCE. Here's what I did.

1. I accessed the "Administrator" or backend of my joomla 1.5.23 site. Put the site on "maintenance" mode.
2. Accessed my cPanel with its built-in "File Manager" where my joomla 1.5.23 files are located.
2. Uploaded the full package of 1.5.25 into a separate folder; say /public_html/joomla1525
3. Extracted the package inside this folder, selected all the files EXCEPT THE "installation" FOLDER and the zipped full package of joomla 1.5.25, and MOVED them into the root folder where my joomla 1.5.23 files are located. Ended my access to the cPanel.
5. Went back to my online site and logged in, and disabled the "maintenance" mode.
6. The upgrade went smoothly without any hitch.

That's it folks! I hope this REALLY helps someone here.

Nicely done, just a couple of points
you could have uploaded the zip to your root and unzipped there. Then just deleted the /installtion folder.
Although longer to do, if you unzip locally and ftp the files then the FTP client will tell you if a file failed to copy correctly.

I managed to find one pack for 23 to 24, since the 24 to 25 is available in the repository.

I dont know if you notice, but there was a reason for the repository keept all ugrade packages form version to version.

Now, there are a couple files... and its a big diference to upload and uncompress a dozen files (in the upgrade packages) that sending the 4 or 5 thousands files for the full instalation pack.

Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package.

Yes to accommodate users who did not update regularly.

Only if the user does not update regularly. And before the intermediate upgrades were removed there were a lot of users in the Forum that used the wrong update package. And then had to re do the update anyway.

@All
Best to use the official Joomla packages.

Several attempts ago I did the 1.5.0 to 1.5.25.

So, yet again, I uploaded/installed Joomla_1.5.0_to_1.5.25-Stable-Patch_Package.zip with the same message "Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package."

Get the same error on two different sites that are currently at 1.5.23.

Please read the information on the page that I gave you the link for. Then you will see why " I uploaded/installed Joomla_1.5.0_to_1.5.25-Stable-Patch_Package.zip" is so wrong. It has 4 steps and none of them describe what you did !!!

SUCCESS ...
Downloaded Akeeba Admin Tools and installed com_admintools-2.1.11-core.zip (free) at https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/o ... -1-11.html

On local site, I ran the admin tools component, click icon for Joomla Update. Made backup, did the update. Fast, simple. No problems.

On live site, ditto. All done!

People should not have to use 3rd party components or modules, since the framework is from Joomla developer team, and theyhave to provide proper suport.

Here is zip for upgrade. What I did:
1) Unpack Joomla_1.5.23_to_1.5.24-Stable-Patch_Package
2) Unpack Joomla_1.5.24_to_1.5.25-Stable-Patch_Package
3) Create folder Joomla_1.5.23_to_1.5.25-Stable-Patch_Package
4) Copy content of Joomla_1.5.23_to_1.5.24-Stable-Patch_Package
5) Copy content of Joomla_1.5.24_to_1.5.25-Stable-Patch_Package - overwrite when asked
6) Zip Joomla_1.5.23_to_1.5.25-Stable-Patch_Package

I'm not responsible for any damage caused by using this file.

EDIT: packed with folder so it looks different from original packages.

Well said, Leo!

And kudos to the Akeeba team for a great backup product ... it makes site restoration almost fun.

I didn't realize they had a site admin-tools product, and it surely helped me out with the upgrade.

Good products. Many thanks to the Akeeba folks!

Alan

Please remember - Joomla is written and supported by volunteers. Third party extensions are additions that have not yet been included in the core package (and may never be included.) The thousands of extensions that have been written are offered as ways to customize the core package to meet individual needs.

Many of us feel that Akeeba is doing a major service by providing their backup and admin tools. Those tools are available for free. If you refuse to use them because 'they are not included in the core package', you are only hurting yourself.

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade from 1.5.23 to 1.5.25. I just wanted to know once I've unzipped the files Joomla_1.5.0_to_1.5.25-Stable-Patch_Package.zip do I copy all files into fileziller ftp to the root directory public_html except for install.php. I also have some videos and pictures on my website. When I do the upload will they still be on my site or will I loose them? Thanx

In filezilla ftp client
Navigate to the unzipped files on the left
Navigate to Joomla root on the right

The left side should look like the right, with the administrator folder at the top. Yes you select all on the left, then (while holding the 'Ctrl' key you deselect the installation folder). Right click on the selected and upload, tick the 'Apply to current queue only'.. Then OK

No you will not loose files. Any non Joomla folders/files are not touched. All that gets overwritten are the Joomla core files. When a directory gets transferred over it does not delete the one on the server. Only the files in it that are on the server get overwritten.

Backup your site first

Excellent, I will try it and see how it turns out. My host backs up the files and I have back-ups to. Is the process to update from 1.5.25 to 1.7 then 2.5 all the same? (deleting the installation files)

1.5.25 t0 1.7 or higher is a Migration http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_J ... Joomla_2.5

Some people prefer to build 2.5 from scratch rather than migrating.

Thanks Webdongle. 1.5.25 worked nicely. Does this mean I can not do the same process to get 1.7. I don't understand what you mean by migrating. Is it the same as upgrading?
