The JED team created a system built on ignorance and silence. If you come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with a listed extension, you are of course invited to send a report but:

You are allowed to send a report only once - OTHERWISE YOUR ACCOUNT MAY BE DELETED.
The form already states, that the JED team "is under no obligation to respond to this report" - and in fact THEY DO NOT RESPOND!
You have to state that you "will not email the team to inquire about the status of my report".

Nice! Really nice! A real "community" powered project!

So, my question: Is there anybody in the normal channel ABOVE the JED team one can ask e.g. why an extension not available under the GPL is still listed AFTER a report has gone unheard?
Is there anybody in the normal channel above the JED team, who is willing to ANSWER questions instead of inventing ways to punish the asker?

Best regards
Andreas

I would assume that the correct people to approach would be the CLT as they oversee the JED team

agree 100%

my conspiracy theory is that they can't wait to launch the paid listings in the JED and in the new Template directory, that's also why they don't allow new candidates for JED volunteering, after years of self-denial and bombastic statements about free software and GPL they finally realized they have a potential cash-cow in their hands.

said that, we can only welcome paid listings with open arms, providing they also guarantee quick support and feeback.

@Brian
Thanks for your suggestion, but due to the fact, that the main architect of the "don't dare to vaste our time"-attitude of the JED team is a member of exactly this board, I don't see any sense in writing to the CLT.

So, maybe someone else could at the least answer some simple questions. Let's start with this one:

Could anybody point me to the paragraph in the TOS that explicitely allows pushing an extension with fake traffic (fake traffic means script generated and/or payed traffic as the opposite to organic traffic from human visitors, searching for extensions)?
I reported two extensions about 3 weeks ago and due to the fact, that they are still listed (and meanwhile in the top 5 of their respective categories) I assume, that faking traffic is allowed. I just want to make sure because I don't want to loose my listings when starting the afterburner myself.

So - could anybody please point me to the respective paragraph in the TOS?
Or - if there isn't any - does this mean it is allowed because it is not forbidden (the JED isn't always very clear in these things)?

Thanks in advance
Andreas

Moin Moin Andreas,
do you mean this guy:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/contacts-and-feedback/greetings/18168

He crashed in to the popular ranking today of "Contacts and Feedback" and is ranked on 4th place after years of stagnation in this ranking.

If you view the details of the listing you will see:
Date Added: 30 September 2011
Views: 446888
Rating: 3.67 out of 5.00 from 3 users.

Ok ... I have a big amount of newsletter subscribers.
When I publish a new extension I send a newsletter with the link of JED.
I guess, I never have had more than 2500 views at one day, even the newsletter.
And we are talking of many many many real people!
Also ... after my newsletter action; the raise of views are ending some time after 14 days.
Than the views are getting "normal".
Depending on the category where there are listed they are getting very low sometimes.
THIS IS A LONG TIME EXPERIENCE!

Today this mentioned extension is 100 days in JED.
Means it has an average view of 4469 views each day!

Even if I would send a newsletter every day in combination with an upgrade; I'd never reach 4469 views constantly per day.
And if I my extension would be sooooooo popular; I'd never have an average rating of 3.67 which means this is crap.
This is burried in the nature of popular extensions.
An extensions which is so popular would never have a lower rating than 4 and the most ridiculous thing:
IT WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE MORE THAN 3 REVIEWS!

This is 100% artificial!
Just check the other extensions of this dev and you will see similar inconsistencies.

Is this the guy you have reported???

Regarding your last post at :
https://plus.google.com/u/0/10102575330 ... nVVDfjEroF
you have already checked the situation I mentioned.

And yes it is same developer we are focusing ;)

This is such an obivious attempt that I can not beleive that JED will take no action.

While attempting to artificially inflate any of the statistics on a listing is against the TOS, it is also something that is quite time consuming to investigate and prove. Reporting once is sufficient as the JED team investigates all reports.

Yes Matt it is indeed time consuming to prove.
Above all someone innocent could be punnished.
" If you don't like a competitor just put a views populating script on his extension ... and he is out! "
This is why ones should discuss this carefully.
But ... In this case it is pretty clear.
Just check the other extensions of this dev.

If I would get so many views over a long term I would get very suspicious and would inform JED.
This was obviously not the case.
It was the intention of the developer to get all these views.

Good thing that TS has already done some investigation:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/10102575330 ... nVVDfjEroF

I am sure the JED team will take it from there. No need to send more reports, they have enough to do as it is. Priority for this issue would be a good idea. Would not want the word getting out that money is to be earned by doing this, you'll only get caught after 2 months.... Good reason to these clowns down asap.

Here is a little screenshot in the form of a comparison chart of extensions with similar views:

Extension - Views - Votes - Date added - Days on JED

AJAX Shoutbox - 508042 - 179 - 5th March 2006 - 2143
eXtplorer - 512168 - 353 - 11th July 2007 - 1650
Mini FrontPage - 486920 - 183 - 2nd August 2007 - 1628
sigplus - 521928 - 238 - 13th March 2010 - 674
Agora - 491131 - 35 - 3rd March 2007 - 1780
RSGallery2 - 496389 - 134 - 5th March 2006 - 2143
GSpeech - 491517 - 3 - 30th September 2011 - 108
Heatmap - 492001 - 2 - 30th September 2011 - 108

Means AJAX Shoutbox got almost the same amount of views as the marked extensions in 6 years.
The joungest is sigplus with 674 days on JED. Means sigplus got almost the same amount of views as the marked extensions in 2 years and got 238 votes. => Ratio: 238 : 674 => 1 : 2.831
Following this the mentioned extensions should have at least 38 votes / reviews.

Numbers are telling more than words ;)
