Hello guys!
I have performed a manual update from 1.7.3 to 2.5 stable.
After copying all update package files an runnig sql scripts from administrator\components\com_admin\sql\updates\mysql\ (starting 1.7.4) everything went smooth and seems to be working fine, except in Extension manager: Update page still is showing joomla 2.5.0 update package (purge cahce doesn't help).
And in Database tab, Database schema version (in #__schemas): **not found**. See atachment

Any ideas?

Regarding Database schema: I am just taking a wild guess. In your folder, \administrator\components\com_admin\sql\updates\mysql, do you have any sql files?

Actually it's a good point, cause I deleted them after update. I will try to restore them and see if it helps in any way.

Purge Cache in your browser and on Extension Manager: Update

I think I understand the problem. My home page is 'Feature Articles'. This is the one not showing up. When the home page is changed to something else (like about box or contact form), it works.

Anyone seen this issue?

Are those articles by any chance written by a user that is linked to a contact and which is unpublished or trashed? Check contacts and also the trashed contacts.
If so, you either publish the contact or delete it totally, also from trash. Your articles will show again.

As I said in a previous post, I wouldn't post again if I didn't have any problems. Well, I have some minor problems. When I go to smart search >> show search results I get this error page:
Code:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class JSite in /homepages/42/d246388283/htdocs/SiteNew/includes/application.php on line 632
Captcha also throws out all these errors so I disabled that, too.

I get other similar, minor errors but at this point I'm not going to mess with it but start fresh i.e. I'm going to install a fresh 2.5 version, add the compatible template and start from scratch, this is the only way to upgrade w/out any errors. Besides, the front end is fine.

The upgrade from 1.7x to 2.5 is like having a child born w/some genetic disorder. Yeah the baby will be born but it's going to be screwed up in some way--maybe 6 toes or something.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. I'm the only user in the site writing articles, and myusername is active and published.

I have been having the same problems so I thought I would test the upgrade on a few sandbox sites.

I use Akeeba backup and kickstart to restore my sites.

On the first install (1.7.4 to 2.5) I got the error below (amongst others):
JInstaller: :Install: Error SQL DB function failed with error number 1060 ....

When I attempted a restore all my backup files on the hosted site had corrupted. No drama since I regularly copy my backup files off site. Once the file was copied back, kickstart worked a treat.

My second attempt on a different site (1.7.3 to 2.5) had the same series of errors. I restored the site but kept getting errors. I then forced an install of 2.5 so I could use the database fix and all seems fine.

I am not comfortable with this because I am not sure that I have a clean install so I am going to stick with 1.7 until 2.5 matures.

All this aside I think the Joomla Project team are delivering some fantastic software and there are bound to be occasional issues such as this.

P.S. Is the 2.5 control panel supposed to look like the file I have attached?

@Mynorsdc, just clear your browser cache and admin panel will go OK.
Use this guide from Brian Teeman: http://brian.teeman.net/joomla-1.7/upgr ... nings.html

Thanks to strumjan, good advice. The article you mentioned is excellent - easy to follow and gives me a little more confidence.

My control panel had returned to normal but without the update icons. I enabled the plugins and away I went. I needed to update admintools and it failed on the control panel button but then I went into admintools and used their upgrade option it worked. Now all I need to do is check what other plugins need enabling (I will install a full version of 2.5 and compare).

Same error (Error SQL DB function failed with error number 1060) upgrading a 1.7.3 multilingual site (En, Nl, Fr) to 2.5.0
Multilingual site is constructed following the new Joomla guidelines.
Fixing the database fixed the errors but NOT the site (some 404's)
After restoring (thanks Akeeba!) second try by first removing the en-GB content language as suggested elsewhere in this thread. Result: a blank site page.

Kompas

Got everything finally fixed.
As mentioned elsewhere, deleting cache everywhere you can is important and also checking the versions of installed extra modules and plugins.

On one site however, a stubborn problem was only solved after switching to another front-end and admin template and then going back (problem was: clicking the options icon in article manager did NOT open the params in a pop up but in the article manager page itself, causing that page to hang whenever you wanted to save or quit, so you had to 'manually' go back. I suspect it was still a problem with some cache somewhere.

Another site showed problems because of the reference to some JavaScript in the header of an index.php override, script that was no longer used on a page. I didn't dig any deeper into it to see why it messed up only on 2.5, all I want to say is that in general this upgrade seems to be more picky than any upgrade I have done before, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Any changes in template code or overrides should not be forgotten and looked at in case of problems.

Nevertheless, hats off for the developers

Kompas

FYI.. upgrading to 2.5.1 solved this. Off to upgrade all my other websites.

You might have problems with the database with mysql 4.0. Upgrading to 5+ solved the database error for me.

That is why Joomla! publishes the minimum technical requirements in order for a site to work under a particular Joomla! versions. http://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_1.6_techn ... quirements
