**SOLVED: Joomla 2.5 Global Configuration Has No CSS Styling

Post by skydart » Tue Jan 24, 2012 11:17 pm

I just upgraded to Joomla 2.5 from 1.7.3 and now the Global Configuration menu item, (when clicked on), does not display any CSS, (even the main menu items at the top of the page do not display), though all of the functionality is there. F5, or Deleting cache, or changing the browser, [Extensions > Extension Manager > Database > Fix does not resolve this issue either] Any suggestions or solutions? Am I alone here?

Try replacing the administrator folder in your installation with the administrator folder of the Joomla 2.5 Full Package.

Have you successfully done this, or is this a "I hope it works" idea?

No, I have not done it with Joomla 2.5. It is too new. :D But if there is a corrupt file in your administrator folder or administrator template this will fix it.

Same problem. Tried overwriting the administrator directory as suggested. I also cleared the Joomla cache plus my browser cache. No change for me.

I know this sounds bad, but I'm glad I'm not alone here on this one. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Disabling the K2 Quick Icon Module worked for me.

Disabling the K2 Quick Icon Module allowed you to view the CSS in the "Global Configuration" menu display?

Well once I disabled the K2 Quick Icon module the Joomla Quick Icons no longer aligned to the left and seemed to display normally but I am not a coder so I have no idea why K2 is interfering with the quick icons.

Unless your talking about something else.

This thread is about the Global Configuration CSS not rendering the page properly, (not the Control Panel page).

I am using Fiefox 9.0 and IE 9. This happens in both browsers and it is only the Global Configuration page this is happening to. Everything else seems to be fine so far. I am getting a database error on the Global Config page at the bottom.

Database Type
Fatal error: Class JDatabaseMSSQL contains 22 abstract methods and must therefore be declared abstract or implement the remaining methods (JDatabase::connected, JDatabase::dropTable, JDatabase::escape, ...) in /home/mysite/public_html/libraries/joomla/database/database/mssql.php on line 781

had the same problem with the Admin layout icons left aligned down the side. Its a CSS issue. I replaced the "Hathor" css file with an old "template.css" file and it all started working again.

Attached the file to this post. you ned to upload it into the Hathor Admin template css folder
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I appreciate your help but I don't beleive it's the template. It is only the Global Configuration page that is messed up. If it had been the template css, more would have been wrong. I tried switching backend templates between Hathor and Bluestork with no difference on that page.

I agree, it's not the template. Too many people are having this issue, and besides, I'm using the default Bluestork template anyway. When I switch to the Hathor Admin template, I get the same results when viewing the Global Configuration menu item.

For people having the database error:
Database Type
Fatal error: Class JDatabaseMSSQL contains 22 abstract methods and must therefore be declared abstract or implement the remaining methods (JDatabase::connected, JDatabase::dropTable, JDatabase::escape, ...) in /home/mysite/public_html/libraries/joomla/database/database/mssql.php on line 781
please post that you're having this issue in this topic:

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... &p=2728055

The reason is I'm having this issue also, and I believe its being overshadowed in many threads with the 'layout' issue. These are obviously two different things, and it bugs me completely as the mssql.php file should not be called on a Joomla install with a MySql database.

With many different users posting there, it may draw more attention that this is a separate issue.

I just went ahead and reported this to the bug tracker as item: 27879

Quick question ... I take it that those seeing this error tried to upgrade using the built-in Joomla upgrade system, right ??

OK ... based on some hints from the people looking at the bug report, I was able to fix this issue on the site I was having problems with.

Anyway ...

Evidently, after doing some research again based on hints from the bug tracker, I looked at the files causing the error, and discovered they're probably coming from an extension, a component called JX Tools.

Don't try uninstalling that extension if you have it loaded, evidently its needed to display the Global Database page because I got an error when I did. I had to reload it to get it to work properly. I then downloaded then deleted any file in the Joomlaroot$/libraries/joomla/database/database/ directory that did not have anything to do with mysql.

The remaining files all had either mysql or mysqli at the beginning of the filename.

This corrected the issue.
Now, this is not an official fix,

I am having this problem too. I tried deleted the files associated with ToolsJX but that didn't help. My global config has no css or save button.

Fixed by deleting

mssql.php
mssql2000.php
oracle.php

Mercer1122, you fixed this by deleting these three files, however, where are these 3 files located?

Check the error message you're getting, it should list the directory path, however, in my case it was off the Joomla root$/libraries/joomla/database/database directory.

Since this was tracked to a extension developer issue, the bug tracker entry was closed. I think what they're going to do is advise extension developers to keep any files OUT of the Joomla core libraries.

That completely stinks. I don't have the "extension" that is referenced above on my site, and I have no idea which extension is causing the issue, nor on how to resolve the issue without breaking the site.

FWIW ... if you remove the file that appears in the error message on the Global Configuration page, and the system still has an issue with another file in that directory, it will appear in a new message when you try to access that page.

Its going to be trial and error, but I'm guessing that any file that has Oracle, or MSSQL as part of the name can be removed.
