TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
When I click on "Insert Embedded Media" it gives me the option to insert flash, shockwave, quicktime etc. I enter all of the parameters and details, and in the preview window shows me my preview correctly, then I click apply. However, when I view the page it only shows a spacer image and not the flash file. I have tested this in firefox, opera and ie6. Help!

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
Hi,
Yes I confirm this is a problem that last from the first 1.5 SVN Builds.
The bug is still present in the RC3 version.
It's impossible to insert embedded media with the Wysiwyg editor regardless of the template used.
When you click on the "Save" or "Apply" button, the result is a white page and nothing is saved.
When you try to do the same directlty in "html code" within the "html view" of the editor, the problem remains the same.
I hope it will be solved in the next builds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because the only way to insert embedded media for the moment is to insert the html code directly into the database with phpMyAdmin or any other tool !
Thanks a lot,
Greg

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
I've found it works on Opera and Firefox if code cleanup is on but not on IE6 or 7. I have been inserting flash code directly into the database due to this. I am not sure if it's a Joomla! problem or a problem with Tiny MCE.peco wrote: Hi,

Can't wait for JCE to be updated for Joomla 1.5. It is light years beyond TinyMCE.

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
I've got it to work with IE and Firefox using Joomla 1.5.3 with VM 1.1 and TinyMCE 2.0. Here is what I did:
1. Change TinyMCE 2.0 code cleanup setting:
- Code Cleanup on Startup: Off
- Code cleanup on save : Always
- Do not clean HTML entities: Yes
2. Add emb flash in the content with the following settings:
- File/URL: media/aboutus.swf
- Dimensions: 270 x 285
- Id: aboutusFlv
- Name: aboutusFlv
- Align: Top
- Quality: autohigh
- Scale: noborder
- WMode: transparent
- Auto play: checked
- Loop: checked
- Show menu: checked
- SWLiveConnect: checked
As you may know, some of the above fields would not have effected the result, but I haven't get the chance to try them individually. Hope this helps!

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
I have had similar issues, but I started using FCK editor and it does not seem to strip away the html code..

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
Shawnsi - I don't know what you're talking about because the minute I turn on those code cleanup options it stops working all together. When I turned them off, the FLASH file would at least show up in the editor (although not on the web page). But when I turned them back on - as you suggested, it stopped showing up in the editor as well.
I also had some success inserting the code directly into the database as Pope Pius said he did... but for some reason on this particular page, not even that is working anymore. Any other suggestions?

Wow, digging up an old topic.
TinyMCE is extremely limited and I cannot imagine anyone using it. Install JCE or FCK.

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
Although this is an old topic, I ran across this issue for a client today and while searching for solutions, this forum post came up at the top of my google searches, so I figured I would post my solution here:
The first problem is that the img tag that is used as a tinymce substitute for the flash embed/object code needs to be a self-closing tag such as:
However, in the "setInnerHTML" method, assigning HTML to innerHTML:
strips the closing slash, even if it is manually added via the HTML source editor. I didn't verify the reason, but I suspect that the custom attributes (such as mce_src) that are added to the img tag cause the javascript engine to fallback to a quirks-like mode that doesn't think this img tag is what it is and strips the closing slash, probably for compatibility reasons (I was using Firefox 3).
That ripples down to the media plug-in, which is where there is code that converts this img tag into an object/embed block of code that actually loads the flash. There is a line of code that looks for a self-closing type of tag (see plugins/media/editor_plugin.js):
By removing the slash, the code is now able to find the end of the img tag, and can continue properly:
But that wasn't it for me, there was still one more problem, but I am not sure if it was unique to my situation. In order for the code in the media plug-in to even run, I had to add an extra case (see plugins/media/editor_plugin.js). Where the code was:
I changed it to:
I figure this last one is due to a version incompatibility between the plugin itself and the tinymce engine. Don't care enough to find out.
Hope this helps someone out there.

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
THE ACTUAL & FINAL SOLUTION:
In Joomla's Admin, go to the EXTENSIONS menu and then PLUGIN MANAGER.
> Select 'EDITE_TINYMCE' plugin
> on the right side, under the PARAMETERS section, set the following settings:
Code Cleanup on Startup: OFF
Code cleanup on save: NEVER
Cheers

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
I have just upgraded a site to 1.5.15 and have as suggested set the plugin to have code cleanup at startup switched to off and code cleanup at save set to never, but Tiny MCE still changes my object code to an image. I never have the editor switched on but my customer whose site it is needs to use the editor and I wont be impressed if everytime she uses it, I have to replace the flash code. So doesn't appear to work for all.

Code Cleanup on Startup: ON
Code cleanup on save: ON
and check filters in content settings.

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
Hello,
I am using Joomla 2.5 and the TinyMCE which comes with already installed (so I d not know what version it is), the settings are original and I turned it to the Extended.
I struggled to complete a formatted page,(by turning off/on of the TyMCE), and got it finally.
Now I am trying to insert a Flash .swf, was impossible, finally with same trick of ON/OFF, i managed to insert the file, I can see the file being played in the Edit/Embed window, but once I save the page with the file present on the page, it does not play.
Could you please help and mention my mistake.
Thanks a lot and I appreciate

Re: TinyMCE 2.0 Not Inserting Flash Files
having the exact same problem as last poster,
I've installed JCKE editor, JCE
and tried disabling and enabling tinymce or not using any editor.. somehow Joomla 2.5.1 INSISTS in removing ANY CODE (like codes)
I have no idea what is going on.. and I'm extremely frustrated.. anyone knows how to remove this dumb blocking scheme?
also I've tried every suggestion and still it blocks code!.
