When looking at things using Firefox, everything looks OK.
But when using Internet Explorer (at least IE7 and IE8) many forms look like something the cat brought-in because lay-out is completely cluttered.
I installed Joomla! 1.6 RC1 with the example data.
From the front end, just click "Create account" to open the user registration form in Internet Explorer. The text fields are not under eachother, as they should be (and are when viewed with Firefox), but there are 2 of them on one row and you have no idea what to enter in what text box.
But if you think this is confusing, that is nothing compared to what happens in the back-end when looking at template styles.
Just go to the back-end with IE and open Template Manager, click styles and then on one of the template styles. Just have a look at the part where you assign the style to menu selections to get really confused.
In IE it is just a bloody mess, and things are scattered around in such a way that you think you are looking at Hiroshima after the first nuclear bomb.
Do the same thing with Firefox, and all at a sudden things start to make sense.
I am not sure if this is an issue with the templates or something else, but is sure is a show-stopper. Although I personally am a big fan of using reliable, standards-based, browsers, it (unfortunately) is a fact of life that most of the visitors of the site use "Microsofts excuse for a web browser", they call Internet Explorer.
Does anyone have a solution for this, other than using a decent web browser?
I obviously cannot enforce what browser my visitors are using.
Kind regards,
Bert

If you would make screen shots and also describe what resolution and screen size you are using, it would be great to post this in the tracker in category templates.

Sorry for the late response, but all my time for the past week was spent with some local fund-raising project in support of 3FM Serious request.
@mcsmom: I am not sure this ancient dinosaur understands the tracker or even where to find it.
But if you need screenshots, you can get them at http://home.planet.nl/~mulco000/screenshotsj16.zip
There are 3 screenshots in the zip file there.
CreateAccount-1024.PNG is the create account screen with a screenwidth of 1024.
Template-1024.PNG is the template style screen with a screenwidth of 1024.
I scrolled-down and "glued" everything under eachother to get the full page.
Template-1440.PNG is the same as above, but with a screenwidth of 1440.
Make sure you scroll-down the two template page pictures to understand what is happening.

Re: In IE7 and 8, forms look like something the cat brought
Hi BertMul,
Just had a look using IE and can confirm the issues you describe, for IE7 at least.
Using standard IE8 then forms and text fields looks correct, but in IE8 compatibility mode or IE7 mode the fields gets distorted and align badly. Happens in frontend and backend as you demonstrate.
Will post it to the tracker for you and link to this thread. Thanks for reporting.

Re: In IE7 and 8, forms look like something the cat brought
I am having the same problem as the original poster, sorry for bringing this old thread back to life, but I can't find a fix. My website is http://www.hospitalinventorytrader.com/register and I attached a screenshot of the issue only in IE7 (and before?)
Is there a fix?
