Hey all,

I've updated everything this weekend from 1.7.3 to 2.5.1 and now the sub menu's aren't working correctly.

A little detail, the side sub menu's are all created with the "menu item alias" function. There is only one real big menu and that is the one on top.

If you see this link the sub menu is working correctly: http://www.seven-nine.be/index.php/poke ... akes-poker

But if you click in the sidebar for another season, the menu closes and doesn't show the subs anymore: http://www.seven-nine.be/index.php/poke ... spoker-s03

Also when you go directly to the article, again no sub menu in the sidebar: http://www.seven-nine.be/index.php/poke ... ker-s07e13

Now this used to be just fine with Joomla 1.7.3 as you can see with the next two pictures, one with J2.5.1 and one with J1.7.3. Beside the localhost part, you can see that the links are the same. (if you look hard)

Joomla 2.5.1

Joomla 1.7.3

All help is welcome!

Bump

Yea, the same happened here.

Menu (Children) alliases will not show up underneath the Parents. In my case the Left Menu is a copy of a Main Menu category. Only the alliases are used to not intervere the Main Menu.

Pretty standard, but bugged in 2.5.0 and 2.5.1

What template are you using? I'm using the YOOtheme Quantum template. Maybe the template is causing this?

Completely the same problem here. Displayed only FIRST level of the menus. Any other sublevel does not appear.

Same problem here! I had a few links on the front end that were giving me errors. I had to go to each menu item and re-save it and it seems to have cured the 404 error problem but on the backend all my menus seem to appear as top level 1 items and I cannot control/manipulate the sublevel menu items to "fall in line" as desired...

Do you have an active Yootheme subscription? sounds like you need to update the template, since the menus are apart of WRAP5/6 on that template.

I'm not even sure what Yootehem is... I use rockettheme for my template but not sure why that would affect the menus although I don't think they've made a compatible 2.5 version yet. Hmmm... maybe that's what it is... still doesn't seem to make sense though.

Two themes from Yootheme.com:

Yoo Nano
Yoo Balance

Both templates have been updated to 2.5, but both give the same problem: the template will remove:

<ul class="level2"><li>ALL</li></ul>

Level 1 however is still visible.

NB: level 2 is visible from a link directly accessed from main_menu, but accessed from a link from left_menu all level 2's are removed. in case of an alias.

I've did some testing with a clean Joomla install. It works for the Beez templates.

I also made a support request at YOOtheme for it: http://www.yootheme.com/support/question/4387

With Joomla 1.7.3 this was ok, so I think Joomla changed something that was not picked up by the template people.

PS: How can we adress this to the Joomla crew to find out what is changed?

These are issues not of Joomla but by RT and by Yootheme....Kibosh...check your menu settings for that menu and make sure the menu is set show all levels

I have a template made by ME. I have this problem to. No submenus works! I checked my menus, resaved some part, checked if levels show and so on. Nothing! First level works correct!

Thx Leo,

But all my settings were correct. It's correct that it is a template issue and not Joomla, but something is changed in Joomla making those templates react differently. With the standard Beez template it works fine.

A work around:
The problem is still there if you create (like I did) different menu's. Now I linked the big main menu and played with the "show levels" in the right module. The end result is almost the same except for the title of the menu, which is now a common title because I only have one main menu that I call in two different menu modules. This tip came from another member of YOOtheme, not YOOtheme themself, there support is none! YOOtheme should rip the support add from there website. Terrible!

So to conclude:
- Creating different menu's and call them in different modules, this doesn't work
- Creating only one main menu, and call this menu in a module for example to the right, then it works.

Default behavior...We happen to know the Warp6 framework very well (just visit all our own sites).

The Yootheme support used to be (and is in own experience) very good and they are getting organized from a forum based approach to a question/answer based approach which is rather cool imho . I have no stock i Yootheme nor affiliation but I cannot share your negative impression. (I know your post is rather old: 8 days but posted shortly after their move which does not justifies but explains the start-up troubles with the new system)

Hey Leolam, if they just would have answered: We are looking into it, then all would be fine for me.

But the only answer we got is, not a template error and that was it. Sry, I'm not a web dev but I do program indrustrial automations. We also have some problems from time to time, but we clearly communicate with our clients. Oh, it wasn't the only problem, had some trouble with the article-index css also. Same here, no help and had to figure it out on my own.

Maybe this is common in the website world, I don't know. I'm just a n00b trying to make a nice website.

But hey, this is Joomla and another story. Therefore I thank you people for keeping everything free, it's a great system. And I hope my earlier posting helps people with the same problem.

Hey Leolam, if they
You should keep your dissatisfaction with 3rd party providers out of this forum and post that directly with them... Listen to my words: I do understand your frustration since I have followed your link but still as per rules the forum is not meant to be a wall of shame for 3rd party developers. You need to settle that directly with those 3rd parties (*see forum rules for clarification)

Thanks for understanding!

my problem is not solved!
I made the site in 1.7. the menu worked beautiful (mainmenu with levels). Now since 2.5 i can only get in to level 1. I get 404 on all level 2. level 2 is displayed in a module to the right and level 1 is displayed at the top. If i create a new menu it works, but my original mainmenu is pretty big, so i will try to avoid throwing that work away.

I'm running MAMP.

I disabled set "Search Engine Friendly URLs" (set to NO) and the submenus started working again on Beez 20.

Then 2 problems resulted from that:
First, obvious, the URL look UGLY!
Second, more serious, the tracking for the analytics stopped working!

I am having this issue too and I have faaaar less experience than anyone else on this thread. Most of the comments go over my head so just to confirm, no one has found a solution or a work around to address this issue yet, right?

Not that I know of.
The only way I found for the submenus to work was disabling SEF URL.
Then you have to deal with the issue that the URLs are not SEF (Search Engine Friendly) which also affects how they look and of course Analytics.

I am inclined to drop Joomla and migrate to Wordpress. I believe the community is bigger and issues like this can be solved faster, or just avoided altogether.

The solution provided was to use url rewriting. Offcourse with enabling htaccess.txt!

Re: url re-writting
I encountered the following issue for a client who hosts their website at Brinkster.

* Mod_rewrite / URL rewrite is not available to Level 1 accounts. This is a feature of Level 2 and Level 3 accounts. If you have a Level 1 account, you will need to use the ASP, PHP, or HTML code redirects.

So, for Level 1 accounts should upgrade to Level 2 or even better find a proper provider.

Does anyone knows what exactly changed in the OCTOBER 2012 Joomla update that caused SEF URL to affect the way submenus worked?

Before that upgrade I had SEF URL on and the submenus worked.

I understand that the way around this problem is to use url rewriting enabling htaccess.txt
My question is, what changed that before we didn't need to use url rewriting to have SEF URL working.
