Smart Search component is gone
I just did a test update from Joomla 1.7.5 to joomla 2.5.1 of my site using the Joomla update function.
But for some reason the new Smart Search component is not showing up in the Joomla admin menu along with all the other componentens.
I know the component is there because I can access it using this URL:
/administrator/index.php?option=com_finder
But it is not showing up in the menu, does someone know what has gone wrong?

Go to the Extension Manager's Database view and click the Fix icon.

Re: Smart Search component is gone
Yes I have done that, that was the first thing I did after updating since I got an error message that the database wasn´t update. And after that it says everything is fine but the Smart Search component is missing.

Re: Smart Search component is gone
Go to the Extension Manager and on the Discover view, see if any extensions aren't installed. Install them if so.

All extensions are installed. The smart search component works, I use it on my site right now but it is just now showing up in the menu.

Re: Smart Search component is gone
I have just updated from 2.5.1 to 2.5.2, and Smart Search is missing from the list of components. Plug-in is enabled, have fixed database, purged cache, used Discover, all to no avail. Any other suggestions about how to get finder/smart search to show up?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Smart Search component is gone
I thought Joomla 2.5.3 would be a larger bug update but it is only a security update so it is natural that this bug isn´t fixed. Maybe Joomla 2.5.4 will be a larger bug update.marrett wrote:Nope..I upgraded to Joomla 2.5.3 and the bug is still apparent .

Re: Smart Search component is gone
I'm having same problem. Smart Search in not in Admin menu. I can see it in Extensions > Components but there is no info other than the title; eg, version, date, author are missing. Just upgrade to 2.5.3 but that does not fix issue.

That is not related to the problem we are having.wild0ne wrote:Hi

It is a bug, as simple as that, we are now waiting for Joomla 2.5.4.

Re: Smart Search component is gone
The same thing has happend to me now with the new com_joomlaupdate component after i updated to Joomla 2.5.4. It does not show up in the components menu.
But if I enter the link manually: /administrator/index.php?option=com_joomlaupdate
Then I can see the new component!

Re: Smart Search component is gone
I have also updated to Joomla 2.5.3, but I have not used Smart Search before and was not able to find it under plug-ins to enable it. BUT what mbabker recommended to look for it under Extension Manager / Discover worked for me and I did find it there and installed it. Only problem now is while trying to Index my article pages under component, indexing completes but no content is found! Could that be part of the bug ? or am I missing something else ?

Re: Smart Search component is gone
Just jumping in here, I am working on a Joomla 2.5.4 site and the Smart Search is missing also, I was able to manually enter the following URL to access the Smart Search system:
yoursite.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_finder
Remember that Smart Search was previously called "Finder" before it was integrated into the Joomla core...

Re: Smart Search component is gone
Yes, I have the same problem, and found a simple solution that allows you to see the smart search component in the menu. For some reason this menu item has not been created so just go to the menu table in the database, and duplicate or alter the "com_search" item menu. Just change:
title = "com_finder"
alias = "Finder"
link = "?option=com_finder"
component_id = "27" (you can find it in "extensions" table with the name of "extension_id")
title = "com_finder"
alias = "Finder"
link = "?option=com_finder"
component_id = "27" (you can find it in "extensions" table with the name of "extension_id")

Re: Smart Search component is gone
Try the process for the SQL proceedure listed here. ( Of course replace "Joomla_Update" with "Finder" and the extenuation ID with "27")
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=624&t=725317
I have just tried this and it works!
It looks like we need to add a value into the "XX_Menu" data table (where XX represents the database table prefix).
The exact documentation can be found here http://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_Update_Mi ... Admin_Menu
I hope this works for everyone!

Re: Smart Search component is gone
Hey,
I found this because I was searching for the solution to show another extension in the Components menu. This works for Joomla 3.x too.
The Fix database tool also resets the Joomla version index. So if you know there is a new Joomla version and Joomla update doesn't show it, use the Fix tool, close the admin, clear cache and try again.
I have found that if you get a good "update", some files may not be updated properly. So there is a way to force Joomla file updates. Before you do it, make sure you have a backup. Then you can download the full install of your Joomla version, copy it to the root of your Joomla folder, and use Akeeba to install the full version.
The trick is to STOP when Akeeba asks you for the database information. You only want to unzip the files for the full install. By default, it will overwrite anything in the Joomla core. This alternative works if you have a problem with any extension native to the Joomla version you have.
Best to you all.
Steve

Re: Smart Search component is gone
I checked the SQL Database and discovered that the manifest_cache code was missing entirely.
I entered the following and saved the table. Problem fixed.
Same solution for all the plugins also. manifest_cache missing. I got the codes from another installation of the same version using MAMP, but you can get from other site db tables if you have access to them.
Hope this helps.

Re: Smart Search component is gone
You would have to do it through your database management software. For example, you woud use PHP admin to view your databoase and then look for something like "query" in the menu.
