installed German - but it didn't show in languages. So I made a new in content .
I can see - that it is installed cuz in the drop down menu it's mentioned with the full name (DE-CH-AT).
I ve activated the language shifter also and set it to position 7 - but nothing appears. (I do not have any small flags in my media manager!)
can anyone tell me what to do?

Did you install the German Language Pack from http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jtranslation1_6/frs/?action=FrsReleaseBrowse&frs_package_id=5585?

If you are developing a multi-lingual site, review of the site http://multilingual-joomla-demo.cloudaccess.net/en/multi-lingual-steps-by-steps.html would be of help.

If you are developing a mono-lingual site, there is no need to activate Language Filter plug-in and to publish the Language Switcher module.

in the documentation is says:

"After installing Joomla WITHOUT sample data, you first have to create Content Languages for each language.
Once these are defined, they will be available all over Joomla User Interface."

But I HAVE already made part of the website?? Can't I make multilanuage site then? ???

and

You will just have to make sure that the desired site pack is installed and enabled before launching the site.

but the site i online. I've installed it online - and am correcting it there
can I do anything at all now - or what should I do?? :geek:
hope you'll be patient!
thanks

If you have already created the Content Language for German then there is no need to do anything.

All the document says is that at the time of creating the Content Language, there is no need to install the Site language. However, before you take the site live, it must be installed.

I believe that you are on the right track.

[Edit: Corrected "deleted" to "installed"]

Sorry about the confusion. It should be "installed" - Not "deleted". I corrected the response.

You should be in a position to proceed further. You could make a single language file into a multi-language file. In fact, this is discussed in the site referenced.

It seems like it works!
but in languages German does not exist!
I added it in Content all right - and I can choose it in menus etc - but apparantly "it does not exist!"

Go to the Extension Manager, click on the tab Discover, click on the tab titled Discover and see whether the German language comes up.

If it does not, reinstall the German Language pack alone and see what happens.

Also, do the following:

(a) Enable the Multi-language Status module - this is a administrator module
(b) Click on the new icon you would notice in the status area and post the image in your response.

Your doc shows that exists a Content language, not that the language pack is installed.
===>Install the de-DE language pack.

To publish the multilanguage status module (as it seems your updates did not do it)
Module Manager=>Filter by Administrator
If the module does not display in the list, Click on New and create it, position Status
If the choice is not proposed to you in the modal, go to
Extensions Manager=> Discover tab, purge, discover and install anything present there.

Note: it looks like
http://8a9f14f23fa623b5922fed9ca8244c68 ... aryurl.org
has the German language installed.

Are'nt you confusing 2 joomla install ?

NOW IT's all right
tried it all again (couldn't figure out why it apparently functioned, when I couldn't see the German language)
found my mistake.
when I clicked Discover I didn't realize that I should click Discover (update) again - then German came up and I could install
thanks every one
