Hello,

A few weeks ago I read in a German forum a thread about a Joomla! migration from 1.5 to 2.5 (click). The author grumble that a migration would cost him 59€ (~$78) for the whole page (migrator + new modules) and that would be awful for a "free" system.

I was very shocked about that post, and wonder, why there are such expectations about Joomla!. Why does people think, that they have entitlement to benefits for free and don't want to "give something back".

But that question shouldn't be the topic for this post, it was only the basic for some thoughts I wrote down.

The goal was not to critisize or put someone down, but rather to encourage people to become more active. Here in Germany (let me guess) 99.9% of all Joomla! user don't participate in the community, cause they think, they cannot help or don't understand how easy they could help.

So cut a long story short, here is the link: Support Joomla!

And again, this shouldn't be a discussion about the community itself or who supports better/invests more time into the community. But feel free to comment the text or post if the text make you think how you could improve your participation.

Best regards,
Benjamin

Interesting article!

I wrote something similar for Joomla Community Magazine (JCM): "Ten ideas on how to get involved in the community"
http://magazine.joomla.org/issues/Issue ... ity-part-1
http://magazine.joomla.org/issues/Issue ... art-2-of-2

Our perspectives differ somewhat. Maybe you could contribute it to http://docs.joomla.org/ or to http://magazine.joomla.org/ ?

This could be said for any country or individual, but I like your thoughts....
