Joomla installation / FreeBSD

Post by praxidice » Sat Apr 14, 2012 10:29 pm

Has anyone managed to get Joomla working properly with FreeBSD operating system ? Every time I've encountered PHP, I've ended up climbing the walls in frustration & same applies to the one and only time I attempted to install Joomla ... countless weird error messages that served only to increase the confusion. I note a few contributions to this forum about two years ago from someone in Holland who was attempting to get some sense out of Joomla / FreeBSD, (site URL was http://avatar.demon.nl). According to later comments, it appeared that he'd got it figured out, however the site doesn't appear to be working now. I'd appreciate any feedback from someone who has particular knowledge of Joomla / FreeBSD business & can verify that the combination can actually work with the installer still retaining some hair. I have a situation that would benefit from Joomla providing it can be made functional in a reasonable timeframe but I have neither the time nor the patience to stuff around for an indeterminate time with something doomed from the start. Alternatively, is there a particular flavour of linux known to be halfway user-friendly with Joomla ?? I'd only use Windoze as the absolute last resort.

The issue would not seem to be one of Joomla! not running, but rather that you cannot get AMP running...
Try http://www.freebsdmadeeasy.com/
or http://www.freebsdmadeeasy.com/tutorial ... osting.php for starters. See how you go from there

I think most of linux distributions will do the work, I've used Debian and everything was working fine.

Thanks to those who responded. I'll follow up those suggestions and hopefully get to the bottom of PHP as I believe thats where previous issues have originated.
