I want a custom module to show up with pages that are accessed through links, not the menu items. I have no problem getting them to show up when the menu link is clicked but when an internal hyperlink is clicked, it shows the "default" custom module text. So basically how do I link the custom modules (on the sidebar) to a page that is accessed through an intnernal link?

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do, but let me guess. :)

You are in the process of redeveloping an existing website. The new website's domain name is different though from the old websites domain name. So what you are wanting is that when someone clicks on the old domain/link that link is re-mapped to the new domains link?

Assuming I'm correct, this would need to be done using the .htaccess and redirects.

SO that was all a guess, but probably wrong. The website addres you gave requires a login, so we can't see anything. It says to visit the current website at noorda.com. So my 2nd guess, probably wrong too, is you're a web developer, and you setup the website temporarily using that domain, but require a login by your customer to see progress, which of course we can't see?

Still maybe what you want is either .htaccess or change all the links. The links from the menu work, but if you've copied text/pages from the existing website, there's going to be lots of broken links referring incorrectly to pages not on your website...

Thank you for the guesses on my terrible explanation! And for leaving it off-line, duh! :-[

I am just hosting and building this site on my subdomain. I have not had much luck building local and then uploading, I like to use akeeba to transfer to the live domain after I build a site on a subdomain. I digress, what I am really trying to do is put a text in the joomla provided custom html module (mod_custom) in the left side column that only shows up on certain pages. These pages are NOT in the menu system, therefore; when that page is requested by a link from an image or another place in the site, it only shows the modules from the last page the was called from the menu:

EX: noorda steel metal panel system has a page with images. I click image "A" to go to a page with the specs. That page is NOT part of the menu structure (too cumbersome). When landing on that page, only the left modules from the last menu item called up will be there. However if it were in the menu, then the correct assigned custom module will appear. I want the custom module to be assigned to a page and appear no matter how the user arrived there.

If this doesn't make sense, or requires a bunch of code I will just use Wordpress, as I have done this countless times with no issues in WP.

Thanks so much for checking it out.

In the module settings you can define whether or not a module is displayed on all pages, none, or those you select.

Exactly! But if the pages are not assigned in the menu, the modules don't show up on that page unless it's navigated there through the menu. But a direct link will only keep the previous module there. Thank you for your help. Just I built the whole 46 pages and 15 photo catalogue in 1 day on a WordPress site. SO easy I really don't need Joomla's power for this site I suppose.

If you click on the commercial roofing image on the above page, the text module on the left should change to a description of the page (with an embedded slideshow) that it points to. The customer does not want the item in the drop-down menus. Yes I have selected that module to appear on the item that shows at the bottom of the editor page, but the articles published are not on a menu, therefore they do not show up. Maybe I have to create a menu and publish it in a position that doesn't exist? Either it's kind moot, but I'd like the answer if anyone knows it, for my future endeavors.

I know this is an old topic but here is the solution to your problem.

Advanced Module Manager (extension) - http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ment/10307

This extension is awesome...it will allow you to assign a module to almost anything you can think of adding it to. It even supports SEF URLs as the sole basis of displaying a module. This sounds like it would be the perfect solution to your problem.

Hope this helps.
