Hi guys.

I have a serious problem. When a user registers on my site: http://thebagshop.de
The registration page hangs for 1-2 Minutes, but then the registration is successful.

This is very bad considering this is a eCommerce site.

I suspect this is an issue with the database, but I have unfortunately no experience with mysql so I don't know where to even begin troubleshooting this.

Please let me know if you know how to approach this problem.

Thank you.

Edit: Its joomla 2.5.4 on ubuntu 11.04.
mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.61, for debian-linux-gnu (i686) using readline 6.2

Please don't bump.
Can you turn on debug and post your profiling information?

Questions I have:

Are you on dedicated server or shared server?

I see even from loading your index the page is slow. Maybe you have a server overload issue? I also notice that preregistration is with Virtumart from the top link on your site and its not core Joomla.

I see your index page has a decent external grade for speed, but it does load a little slower.

Could you please test core Joomla registration and tell us if you have the same issue?

It's VPS hosted in NL with IntoVPS

I think IntoVPS had some issues yesterday, I noticed too that it was slow and at some point it timed out. It's now loading normal for me again.

Yes the same issue happens with core Joomla registration, which is the reason I posted here instead of the VM forum.

Thank you for your help, appreciate it a lot.

Is your registration fixed after the server started to work fast?

If the problem is still alive I would like to try core Joomla registration. Could you provide a link please.

As of know I think you need to try to load this site on another host. It took me 60 seconds to pull up this page and I'm sitting on 1GB of internet from our data center.

Could you replicate this site on a alternate host to see if you have the same issue on a host with faster server?

They had again connection issues in NL.
There was an announcement about emergency fibre-optics maintenance in NL.
I too noticed loading issues last night again.

I just upgraded the server for testing purposes, so it has twice the memory now.
However this had no effect on the registration process speed it seems.

All other pages are loading fine for me and friends in Germany, apart from the occasional hiccups that I attribute to the above mentioned issues.

Any other suggestions please?
Problem is still not solved, customers leave the site before registration is complete.

Thank you.

Have you disabled any plugins you have enabled?

Do you have access to the php error logs? if you do then you could tail the error log during the registration process to see if its spitting out any errors.

Have you thought about hiring a professional to help you? Someone needs to login to the site, have access to the server, root access would be best, and be able to look at MySQL stats. You might even need to setup a way to test the code to see what is taking up so much CPU or IO time while your trying to complete this task. Either you have a plugin blocking something, your servers resources are all used up, you have bad table join or something on that area of the site. why on registration I know its not likely. Someone who has knowledge has to see what is loading in that area of the application. I might suggest you turn on Joomla debugging to see if you get any hints.

We created this video to show you how you can profile the Joomla application. For this single page its bunch of work to do but its worth it to find the bug. This is the final way you would look if you could not find something server or direct application related.
