Direct path til installationfile : http://localhost/JoomlaTest/administrator/index.php

So, when I try to instal Joomla 2.5.4 this way on my localhost I get this error :

Parse error: parse error, expecting `T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING' or `'('' in c:\programmer\apache group\apache\htdocs\joomlatest\administrator\index.php on line 18

I'm using :
PHP 4.0.0
Apache webserver 1.3.2-alpha
MySQL 5.5.23 Community server (GPL)

Question : Is my PHP-version or the Apache to old for this Joomla-version?

In advance - thanks for respons.

TGL, Denmark

The answer is yes, it is too old. You could not install even Joomla 1.5 with PHP 4.0.0. More details:

php 4? Way to old and not supported, use php 5.3 at least. Why so old versions? Apache as well, too old.

Thanks for the answers.

Guess I first have to uninstall my old Apache-server and delete the folder "PHP" which contains the files for the 4.0.0 version.

It's so old because I have installed the PHP and Apache from a CD that came with the book "PHP - fast and easy web development." :-)
----------------------------------------

PHP 5.2.17
So, know I have downloadet the installerpackage from www.php.org called "php-5.2.17-win32-vc6-x86".

Apache webserver
Still need a newer apache-version -> What's your choise?

You could install the Wampserver bundle from http://www.wampserver.com/en and get the latest versions without having to worry about the integration.
