My first experience with Joomla.

I just recently installed Joomla 2.5 on my local Microsoft Web Server 2008/IIS running MySQL and PHP (both being the recommended versions.) Once I get proficient with Joomla and a working site I plan to deploy it live. Right now it is for learning purposes only.

Installation went fine and ran normally for a few days with the exception of the Media Manger issue. This has existed from the time of installation.

Now, I have 3 issues that I suspect are related:

1. An intermittent error when attempting to access any database in JooDB (worked fine for a while.) Happens with the sample DB as well as any I create. Now result is: 500 - An error has occurred. DB function failed with error number 2. Could not connect to MySQL. I have searched the web several hours and cannot even find DB error number 2 mentioned anywhere.

2. Any pics uploaded in Media Manager will not display. If you click on them a window will pop up as if to preview but the progress wheel will just keep spinning or I get "an error has occurred." They are low res JPEG files and should be fine. Tried placing them in the directory with the sample pics (which display with no problem) Tried saving as PNG unsuccessfully.

3. I am kicked out (maybe by design) of Joomla admin panel if I am inactive for a few minutes and sometimes when I log back in I get multiple admin users. I was using IE 7 but switched to Firefox but the problem persists.

Could possibly be a permissions issue? The directory where the DB and pics are stored is read only and any attempt to change it resorts back to read only. I am assuming this would be by design on a published site. This would not explain, however, why the pics won't display when copied to sample pic folder. The problem with the DB did go away for a while and then came back for no apparent reason.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!!!

Tim

Any ideas?

Could this be a permissions issue? If a site is published are the permissions changed to read only?

Do you need to use a Windows local server? If not I think you would be best served by using something like Xampp. Error No 2 is very common and is mentioned probably hundreds of times on this Forum. It means you have entered the wrong database details somewhere.

Yea, I purchased the Windows server with the aim of bringing our web site in house. It is currently hosted. So, I'm pretty much committed to using it.

I will explore the database details for possible errors. Thanks for the help!

I deleted the database I created, as well as the sample database, and then created a new one. This seems to have fixed the error number 2 problem. Also, the multiple user issues seems to have gone away leaving only the Media Manager problem.

With Media Manager, the sample pictures included with the installation look fine. However, any pics I upload will not display or preview. I have tried JPEG and PNG formats with relatively small files (250k or less.)

Any ideas on this one?

Thanks!

Tim

Tried uploading pics directly to the image folder and got the same results.

If I click on the "Preview" link I get a blank preview box with "an error has occurred" in the top corner.

If I click on the "Image Name" link I get the following error:

HTTP Error 500.50 - URL Rewrite Module Error.
The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurted.
500.50 - A rewrite error occurred during RQ_BEGIN_REQUEST notification handling. A configuration or inbound rule execution error occurred.
Note Here is where the distributed rules configuration is read for both inbound and outbound rules
