Hey guys. I'm having some major issues SPECIFICALLY with Joomla! 2.5 using MAMP Pro 2.0.5 on OSX Lion, and could use all the help I can get.

1) This forst one is MAMP related. I was watching a couple of Joomla tuts on YouTube and saw that people using MAMP could automatically view an indexed directory of their htdocs folder using "http://localhost:8888/" in the address bar. When I enter "http://localhost:8888/" I was getting the index.php file that was residing in there. So I removed it so that it would just show my indexed directory...no such luck. For some odd reason I keep getting "Forbidden" errors. This is a fresh install of MAMP Pro with no custom settings, so why can't I view an indexed directory of my htdocs folder?

...and also, why am I unable to extract archives into the htdocs folder? I keep getting told that i have to extract elsewhere or to desktop. What's up with this?

2) I dunno if this is MAMP related or Joomla related. Inside of my htdocs folder I have folders for all of my websites I'm currently building/developing. They're all separated by service (html/joomla/etc/...), and then each separated into a clients project folder (which I want to act as the project root directory). When i enter "http://localhost:8888/service/client-project/" I'm taken to the Joomla install screen like always. But once I select my language and click next/continue it doesn't continue. The animated graphic just keeps swirling forever. However this seems to NOT happen when I take all of the Joomla install files and plce them into the root of the htdocs folder. Everything continues like normal when I do that. Why is this, and how can I get it to do what I want it to do?

3) With every attempted install I get the dreaded "configuration.php writable NO" error. I searched and found the workaround to this long ago, but I can' for the life of me remember what it was. Something about copying a folder from inside one of the Joomla folders and placing it in the Joomla root directory. Can anyone help me on this as well?

Only having used MAMP in its community edition I cannot specifically comment on MAMP Pro and the differences it might have - however Pro has a much larger documentation base and support architecture on the MAMP web site and it may well be worth starting here for this.

Installing MAMP CE by opening the package and simply dragging it to Applications, and then adding the Widget makes it possible to easily set up Joomla! by simply extracting and dragging the Joomla files directly into the htdocs directly.

Using CE entering localhost MAMP opens an interface page in the browser but again this may be different on Pro.
Using the Widget there is an easy way to start and stop the server and to reset the port numbers to the default apache and mysql ports. There is then an easy PHPMyAdmin tab from this page and more.

Have you tried reinstalling MAMP Pro?

Are you using Pro on a Mac server or Mac pc/laptop?

Mac Desktop. And I've tried their "community", and it totally blows. I posted a question there a week ago and it's still being reviewed, and hasn't even gone live yet.

Only the first one is about MAMP though lol. The others are about Joomla.

Actually, I found that the installation and use of MAMP has been by far the easiest of any stack on Windows, Mac OSX, or Linux to install. Just for a bit of balance.
Not knowing how you have installed these things makes it difficult though to say your experience of it is wrong though...

I too am on Lion and ver 2.0.5 of MAMP.

Actually not necessarily, if there is an issue with the server installation, these issues may be directly related.

I do not see, nor would I expect to see, a list of the files in the way you have described. That usually only occurs when there has been an issue with the installation as far as my experience goes. I simply use the Finder to navigate to the htdocs/ directory as usual.

It would seem that, for whatever reason, the installation of MAMP has not gone as intended, and you should consider re-installation of the same, following the advice from the MAMP site to the letter.

A quick look at the MAMP Pro documentation shows the following on the Installation page:
Quote:
Installation process

Download the MAMP PRO disk image from http://www.mamp.info.
Open the disk image and drag MAMP PRO into your Applications folder.

Note: You need administrator permissions to install MAMP PRO!

If MAMP has not been installed yet, please download and install it. The MAMP, too, has to be installed in your Applications folder!

It may be that because you did not get MAMP working properly that in turn Pro will not work either.

MAMP Pro is, it seems, primarily the interface together with a few additional tweaks of the basic package such as multi-PHP versions can be installed.

Possibly. I'll give another go at a re-download and re-installation and see what's what.

Ok so I'm not sure how or why, but apparently the install I originally had was bonked or something.

I re-downloaded and installed, and I no longer have problems. That was weird. thanks for your help.
