Hi

Just checking

Must one create a menu item in order to have a URL for a published Article.

I have Google ads and want to have a landing page on my Joomla website for which one requires a web address for the landing page. To get a web address in Joomla, you must have the Article displayed on the menu.

Is there any way one can get a web address of an Article without it being a menu item or is there a workaround or people having to login?

Kind Regards

ARNOLD

Yes, you can link to article. The easiest way is if you have SEF URLs turned on. Then you can copy the alias into the url;

eg http://mysite.com/alias-name
if your article is in a category, you might have to include that too; eg, mysite.com/category/article

Hi pxforti

Thanks for your e-mail.

It does not seem to be a case in my case.

The article has to appear on the menu in order for it to be referenced. I created an uncategorised article called FAQ with the alias being faq. SEF is turned and the article does not appear on the menu.

I typed: flossnet.co.za/faq.html

I want to reference an article using a URL without it having to appear in the menu.
I got a 404 error.

There are two ways to do it;

1. Create a new menu called invisible and add the article to the menu. You can then use the alias to access it.

2. http://yoursite.com/index.php?option=co ... ticle&id=1 where id equals the article id number.

Thanks a million.

Your first option worked like a bomb.

I created a menu and added a menu item called faq. I then typed flossnet.co.za/faq.html and the article appeared.

So in conclusion, it must be a menu item. However, you don't need to publish the menu and will thus be able to access the article as a URL.

Thanks once again.

It doesn't have to be a menu item if you use the url syntax I sent, but that's not very user friendly if you're sending the link as a landing page. Also, yes, for the sef url to work, the item has to be linked to a menu but the menu does not need to be published.

Glad it worked.
