get this error when trying to install jck editor 5 beta for joomla 2.5:

Unable to open archive/unable to find install package error

Either the package you have is a zip file with multiple zip files inside of it - You have to unpack the outside one first and then upload the individual component, plugin modules that it contains.

OR

Your server does not have zip functionality enabled.

My money would be on the first one.

no its not one of those "unzip first before installing" extensions. The instructions are to install as is.

As far as the second theory, my joomla installer is working for at least some other zip files, for example I just installed some akeeba products with no problems. So it appears neither of those are the issue.

OK what about PHP upload limits is this extension the same size or bigger than Akeeba?
Check max_upload value in the PHP Information tab of System Information.
And perhaps because it is a Beta it is just not going to work (and beta software is never recommended for anything other than a development (not live) site anyway. Have you checked with the developer forums for similar instances?
