I have arrived at a header appearance I like after some experimenting on a local site. I had previously used Beez5, but didn't like so much white space at the top. So I made Beez_20 the default and started to experiment.

In templates/beez_20/images/nature, I deleted (renamed) 7 image files (see below).
I replaced the header.jpg (size 960x190) with my own header.jpg (size 1200x190).

The header image sat a bit too close to the top this time, so I simply reworked it in photoshop to include a thin white strip at the top! I also changed the composition to accommodate the font larger/smaller/reset which shows in this area.

It seems to work - so can I keep it this way? Site is now live here: http://www.bdeyes.com

These are the deleted files (actually renamed to include XXX in the name - see attached screengrab):

Its fine most people change the header image anyway to put their own in. The only issue would be if the css file was saying the image should be this and that size and you altered the image size, so a quick edit of the css file is fine. Of all the sites I have made and there have been many I have always changed something

I got used to changing header images in Beez5 - with a simple .jpg of 1050 x 180 px to replace the fruits.jpg image - but Beez_20 seems quite different.

In Beez_20 I deleted several image files associated with the header area (to make sure they didn't show), but I didn't make any changes at all to the CSS files (because I'm still a bit uncomfortable with editing CSS).

I arrived at a size for the header.jpg by trial and error (I chose 1200 x 190 px).

It was a suprise to see the fontsize bigger/smaller/reset appear in my header image, but after a swift edit in Photoshop I am very happy to keep it there.

My solution is obviously a little unconventional, but I hope doesn't result in any bad or unexpected display. www.bdeyes.com looks great to me in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Anybody please let me know if I have made a big mistake!

Hi
The background colour appears first in the header but thats a minor thing and changing it in the css is the way to go.

The close info link is mis aligned (I have only looked at it in chrome)

Thanks for the feedback. The green flash of background is no problem, and I even like the colour itself.

The misaligned 'close info' link can stay that way until I become more comfortable with CSS. On this site I might even remove this link completely.

I would be quicker to try changes to CSS files if I didn't fear them being overwritten in - what used to be - very frequent Joomla updates. I have read a lot of posts on copying and re-naming templates to avoid the over-writing of edited files... but I think I'll wait a bit longer and hope for a one or two button fix to come along!
