Apologies if this has been covered, Ive checked the forums but none quite match

I am adapting an existing template joomla 1.0.10 (inherited site and unable to update as of yet)

How do i preview this template before making it live in this version?

install a test/dev instance of the site, make your changes there before uploading to the production site.
