Can you explain the data you need to store and how you use it? There may be a more generic extension that you can customize to fit your needs.

Let me know.

Do all offices have the same inventory? It seems like it could be represented by a spreadsheet or single MySQL table. Something like:
Code:
Office   # chairs    chair color     ...
#1       14          red
#2       12          blue
#3       35          green
...

Or do you need it where you declare the types of inventory items that offices will be reporting and then you have entries for each office? That's more complex, but there still may be a generic extension out there that does something similar.

Have you looked at extensions like Sobi2?

Let me know what you think.

Are there requirements for how the user interface should look/work or at this point do you just need something in place? Would you prefer it to be like a spreadsheet or more like a table and form (like users, articles, etc in the Joomla! backend)?

If each admin officer can update their own inventory, are they allowed to view other office inventories? Can they update them?

I would look at SOBI2 and see if it would work for you:
http://www.sigsiu.net/manual/chapter_1_introduction/what_is_sobi2.html

You can create categories (in your case, you may just have one called asset). And then you can create fields for that category (in your case: date of purchase, donor's name, etc). Then users can enter (and I assume edit) instances of your category. I don't know how well it handles user access and limiting certain data to certain users. If that's something you need, there still may be ways to do it with SOBI2.

If you just want a spreadsheet, I assume you could create a Google Doc spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/) and embed that in an article on your website or something.

Let me know what you are thinking.

I haven't used it, but this was the first thing that popped up when I searched:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/core-enhancements/data-reports/13634

If you end up using it, let me know what you think. If it's good, I could see using it for other applications as well.

Thanks

Everything in Joomla! is stored in a MySql database. I'm guessing, you could use mysqldump to dump your SOBI2 data to a CSV file that Excel can then import.

Let me know if you think that would be a good solution.

hey bro I have installed Event table edit component but i don't like the export system, because i am for Vehicle logbook entries, at 10 field stations and the number of vehicles are almost 70 , the thing is that it export into text field when i copy and paste into excel it shows me data into one column of excel, although i created columns in event list, now its really hard to use this extension, is any way to export data column wise into csv format so it would be easy for us to analysis data. or any other extension which export Event table edit database into excel? iam not good with SQL queries etc. here is link of component: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ement/2433

Do you have access to phpMyAdmin? Most hosting providers have it available.

You can export data with it pretty easily. It has a graphical interface that can help you with the queries. If not, I can help come up with the query that will dump exactly what you want. Here's a post on how to export data:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1802410/how-to-export-a-single-table-from-phpmyadmin-to-a-comma-delimited-text-file

Let me know what you find.
