plimun.com AKA autson.com aka inowdesign.com is inserting hidden back links in the extensions they give out for free for joomla.

The users who use these plugins are not aware that they are linking to plimun.com, autson.com and inowdesign.com. These users will get the website banned for no fault of theirs when google finds out and considers plimun.com aka inowdesign.com as bad neighborhood as they did with autson.com.

What is annoying is a joomla is allowing this to happen. Why are they allowing these extensions to be given to poor users. Why can't they tell plimun.com AKA autson.com aka inowdesign.com to not have HIdden BACK LINKS. I think Joomla should strictly stand up against this to protect their users. It won't be long till everybody who gets banned will hate joomla and spread the word.

Please act for what is right!
MC

They editor http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... show/18640 has marked "Installs hidden backlinks to author." but what is the point by just remarking. It should be not allowed in the first place.

Personally I do not believe "hidden" back links should ever be allowed but I gave up fighting that one years ago. However in this case the links you mentioned are not "hidden back links to the developers site" as the JED warning states but links to other web sites which afaik is definitely not allowed

If it is a link to a site that *is not* the actual developer's site then no, that's not allowed - simply report the listing. It is currently allowed for the developer to include a credit link - hidden or not. We don't actively monitor new versions of extensions that are uploaded after a listing is approved unless something is reported or if the listing ends up in a random audit - so we don't catch all of them.

Hidden links, with the warning, usually works well enough for most users to avoid using the extension - or at least being forewarned that they should remove it or at the very least make it non-hidden. Often times, a developer will change that behavior once the editor's note goes in as they are smart enough to realize what it will do to their download rates. But, some don't.

I will say, that rule is up for revision (allowing hidden links at all), but no decision has been made on it yet.

The hidden backlinks are not accreditation to the developers site - they link elsewhere.

As Brian says - hidden backlinks should never be allowed - they should be visible or not be there at all. If it is hidden then the dev knows it's dodgy!!

Please do not give up fighting for what is right as I was advised to do when I reported extensions with obfuscated code still in JED after multiple reports.

As Joomla is an open source software project that totally depends on volunteers and their contributions, I would ask you to reconsider your stance on not reporting anymore, and report extensions that do not comply with the rules.
Thanks!

But you said that you were advised to give up but the post (you refer to) clearly states the opposite to what you claim.

What in the heck are you talking about? I'm saying just I was advised not to stop trying. I'm sorry you misunderstood what I said or if I wasn't clear enough even after the exact quote.

Please forgive me. Can we get back to the topic at hand about the underhanded backlinks.

P.S. Doesn't Dongle infer copy protections, obfuscation and the sort; some permission needed to make the whatever work? Interesting choice of names after my quoted post above speaks of Ion-Cubed encoded software still being allowed in JED after multiple reports ;) Just sayin . . .

OK re read it and looks like a difference in the use of grammar.

Reads to me like you are requesting "Please do not" ... the action "stop fighting" ... like you were "advised to do"..

"Please do not give up fighting for what is right as I was advised to do"
Has a totally different meaning to
"Please do not, as I was advised to do, give up fighting for what is right "

Sorry if I misunderstood your meaning.
