Hi Friends,

Urgent help !!!

While Am trying to upgrade the Joomla version from 1.5.15 to 1.5.23 with Joomla_1.5.15_to_1.5.23-Stable-Patch_Package.zip through the admin, I got the error like could not find xml setup file.

Shall I upgrade by uploading the zip files through FTP ?

Thanks

You also can do a manual update.

First do a backup of your Website!

Unzip the update package and upload the content with your FTP client into the root directory your Joomla installation. Overwrite all existing files. Upload the configuration.php from your Backup (!) into your Joomla.

Upgrade files do not include a configuration.php file so you do not need to re-upload yours.
Joomla does not upgrade itself using the Joomla Extension Manager, that is why you got a xml file error.
You can install the Admin Tools extension and use that to update your site. You can FTP the patch files to your site overwriting the existing files also to update your site.

Sorry to jump-in, but my question may be useful to others reading this.
Is there an upgrade patch from 1.5.15 -> 1.5.26
I only see upgrade patch to 1.5.23
Could it be due to database changes from 1.5.23 -> 1.5.26?
Many thanks

After .23 they stopped doing upgrade patches for each earlier version. You now have a choice of the 1.5.0 to 1.5.26 patch which covers all versions before .26 or the full file set 1.5.26 stable. You can use the full file set as a patch as long as you do not upload the "installation" folder. There are no database updates/changes in any of the 1.5 Joomla updates.

Thanks for confirming about no DB changes. I've been 'away from Joomla' for some time, but back again now :-)

Would you suggest using the Admin Tools extension for upgrade from 1.5.15 to 1.5.26?

After that, would same extension cope with upgrade to 2.5.x?

@ Vince
You can use Admin Tools extension to upgrade Joomla but I don't think you can use it to migrate to 2.5. You will need the jUpgrade extension for that.

You are correct.
For now I suppose I'll just undertake updating all 3 sites to 1.5.26 and hope the 1.5.x branch is maintained for a little longer.
Many thanks

Found this thread quite informative. I´m about to upgrade my installation from 1.5.18 to 1.5.25 (need to be on that version for a certain payment module for virtuemart to work).

So is it the same here: I download/unzip the 1.5.0_ to 1.5.25 patch and then upload everything except configuration.php? Do I have to replace everything in subfolders too?

Use the 1.5.0 to 1.5.26, extract locally, and then upload everything to the root folder of your site, all applicable files will be overwritten. Backup your site files and database first, Akeeba Backup extension is good for that.
