Never Used Joomla as my CMS - Need Advice

Post by GKillian » Sat Oct 06, 2012 1:24 am

I've been building websites for a number of years but I've never used Joomla. I've been considering it for a while but not sure how the well the cms does in the serps. Any advice? Obviously many use Joomla, but how is it for seo in general. And does anyone have any tips for SEO in Joomla? ??? I appreciate any input anyone might be able to provide before I take the next step :p

You posted in the Joomla! 3.0 forum, but if you plan on using Joomla! for the first time on a website you need to use 2.5. 3.0 release is more for devlopment and not meant for production.

If you have used Druple, Joomla will be very easy for you.
On SEO view, Joomla is good, but not the best. You can opt for extensions like sh404sef to manage SEF urls.

HI ! I know there are many FAQs on Joomla SEO but Joomla has built-in SEO functionality. The SEO tab in Global Configuration takes care of global SEO settings for your Joomla site.

There is NO SEO setup in Joomla Global Configuration. (SEO=Search Engine Optimization)
There is a SEF setup in Global Configuration. (SEF=Search Engine Friendly)
These are 2 different things.

SEF is NOT needed to be indexed by Google.
SEO is important to be indexed properly by Google and relies on content, title, keywords etc.
There is no failure until you give up.

So far I only found one all-in-one premium plugin for onsite SEO.

You can't go wrong if you find solutions for all the common SEO 'problems' one by one, there's plenty of help.

Metatags, Titles, Headings, SEF urls what you are after in the first round.

I will ask the question over in the 2.5 section, but while im here can you tell me if their are any good "free" SEO plugins for 2.5. I don't mind paying for one so long as I don't have to keep paying for updates over and over again.

That's one thing I miss about Wordpress, lots of very good free SEO plugins.

I've been using Joomla since it's birth, and really love it. Needs some adjustments though, but then it works great for SEO.

First time is always a hassle.
