No progress in the approval queue for a week?

I submitted a plugin (VM2 ordernumber plugin) a week ago, and on the first day I already moved up 5 spots in the approval queue. However, since then nothing has changed and my position constantly stays at 124.

I have in the meantime released some new versions and always updated the submitted entry with the latest version (and checked the "Errors Corrected?" entry as I was instructed on the page, to not loose my spot in the queue).

Is there any particular reason why apparently nothing is going on in the approval queue?

please consider that the jed team are made by volunteer
and have to manage something like 10,000 extensions
with a rate of about 50 new a week

Even though the [censored] [censored] Lipscomb banned me from JED for telling him what I though of him ... I am willing to volunteer to help check new submissions to JED. It looks like JED management is taking a lot of positive steps in the right direction and needs all the help it can get.

It looks like JED management is taking a lot of positive steps in the right direction
glad to know that team efforts are recognized
just give the new team the right time to settle.

Sure, I can totally understand this, and I don't want to force anything. I just didn't see ANY progress in the queue (it has been spot 124 for exactly 7 days now, with NO progress; even just moving one spot every few days would be fine), so I thought it would be wise to ask now if this is normal or whether I had done something wrong. I don't want to wait 3 weeks, just to be told afterwards that I should instead have done something else, and have to resubmit (and again wait 3 more weeks).

In particular, I wanted to make sure that when updating a submission with a new version (after some user's feedback), that I did the correct thing and checked the "Corrected Errors" box (after all, the page tells me to, but after that I didn't see any progress in the queue any more).

The submission page is currently missing any information about how to properly update your submission.

This seems a strange way to get volunteers to help in the JED but I am happy to nominate Webdongle, if that helps. He seems a very active Joomla community member. With a post count of 21265 I hope he has the time to spare.

if webdongle or anyone else filled out the, jed team application form for consideration it may save these topics diversifying from their true course.

there are numerous reasons why it may not appear to be moving in a queue. one could be that a jed will check several components at once and then unpublish all in one swoop, another that they were at the jwc, another that as volunteers they cant do 500 checks every day.

But it is not diversification ... the title is'No progress in the approval queue for a week' ... the amount of volunteers surely has an effect on that. I've looked at the form but there is nothing on there that specifies testing to see if the extension works as described. There are no descriptions of the posh titles given. However http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... article/30 gives some descriptions and there appears to be 'chiefs not indians'(so to speak). And the closet to testing to see if the extension works is 'JED Listing Editor'. And there are only 2 of those.

So with little information it's difficult for users to volunteer. And thus there are frequent posts like this about the approval queue being at a standstill.

With Bugsquad a user volunteers by contacting Mark Dexter ... and then is asked what they think they can do. They are then accepted or rejected.

Why is JED much less open ? Why is it made difficult to volunteer by not describing the roles clearly and yet asking users to volunteer for those specific roles ? While JED maintains this role of secrecy (inherited from the previous dictatorship) then there will surely be more threads similar to this one.

This is not diversifying it is pertinent to 'No progress in the approval queue'

i've only expressed my personal opinion and with no reference to webdongle,
he is a well knowed active community member, and I have great respect for him
so far from me the intention to reject candidature or decrease the prestige
the amount of volunteers surely has an effect on that
sure, but, we have to not forget that a team need coordination , common purposes etc..
and perhaps a great number of people is a little bit difficult to manage especially for a new team
here are frequent posts like this about the approval queue
all extensions developers whises is to see their extensions listed on JED the day before was posted,
but at least now a reply is given , if i'm not wrong there are no one of this kind of post without response like sometimes ago

i hope we are starting a new course on JED as some of you are beginning to recognize, and I believe that this topic is an example, we are publicly speaking about JED matters.

personally I hope to be able to fulfill my duties as best as i can
and certainly my efforts will go in the direction of openness and not secrecy
and the published JED TEAM STRUCTURE is another example

we are putting our faces with first and last name so give us trust and time, and especially continue to give us ideas and proposals and forgive mistakes of youth

but do not expect miracles we are not magician, we are person like you

My full name is easily found with any whois look up. Any pic of mine would look like a mug shot. And I doubt it would have any influence over trust(or otherwise) of me.

That would be a good idea methinks. As you probably are aware one of my pet hates is when an entry in JED does not match the capabilities of the extension. Perhaps if you had a small group of people testing extensions and reporting directly to a team leader ? That would free up the time of those who checked the security of extensions. And would also help when any complaint form was submitted after the extension was published. When any complaint came in about a published extension then there would already be a 'frame of reference' to measure the complaint.

Of course care must be taken with commercial extensions to prevent misuse. But with a group of testers reporting accuracy to one team leader then it would help speed the process up ... would it not ? It would have the added advantage of spotting bugs in the extension ... although a bug would not always prevent an extension from being published it could be reported to the developer. This would help the developer and help with the quality of the extensions in JED.

Addendum
When I offer help, I don't mind being told it's not wanted or that I'm not good enough. But it chaffs a little for someone to say they respect me then pour out excuses rather than say I'm not wanted. excuses from

I will also support Webdongle to be part of JED. I have seen his very active in the forum and sometime meet on the same topic with wide range of ideas and opinions on the topic.

If there's a suspension, then the JED volunteer application won't be accepted either, unfortunately. You can read about the suspension procedures in section J of the Terms of Service:

Nick,

Wouldn't it be appropriate to investigate the cause of the banning, rather than simply dismissing Webdongle's application outright? It's possible his ban may be for reasons not related to JED abuse, isn't it?

Without discussing in public how/why the ban came about (raised by and alluded to by webdongle), I understand the cause of the ban was investigated and it would seem a bit of a contradiction that someone unable to be in the jed would be an editor etc or in any other on-project team

Firstly the cause of the ban was not investigated fully. Secondly it was my initial suspension that was discussed. And you know that I kept you and the JED team fully informed of my concerns about particular extensions. And I informed you about the reasons for my review.

The review was published and it was only after JED published the review that I received the suspension. Once JED publish a review it acknowledges the review is acceptable. To then have a change of mind after accepting a review is just ridiculous to say the least.

The ban was for for telling a particular person what I thought of their inconsistent and arbitrary application of the rules. Admittedly I used 'colourful' language but I said only the same as what many others have said behind his back. And before you accuse me of going off topic, by offering to help(after being stabbed in the back) I am offering an olive branch to the JJED team. I am willing to forget the way I was treated but if you or the JED team use my ban as a reason to refuse my help ... then every time you mention it then I will exercise my right to reply.

to clarify, i had/have no influence in the original ban, the investigation or any volunteer applications.
it is nice to see webdongle offering to help despite his history with previous members of the jed team. anyone else want to help reduce the queues?

If there has been a recent investigation about my ban then it would appear that it was not just previous members.

Nice of JED not to notify me of their recent 'investigation' about me. Would have been nice of them to tell me outright that I am not wanted instead of talking about me behind my back.

'JED Detective' has 22 extensions listed in JED and my suspension was for making a review when I had an extension listed :eek: And the suspension was made After the review had been approved !

Can I once again point out the elephant in the room. While an average of 2 extensions are being processed per day (often none for a whole week at a time) the queue is growing steadily. I have an extension that is 206 in the queue which at this rate will take more than 3 months to be reviewed.

The volunteers doing the reviewing are generously doing so for free, but it does seem that the time they are collectively giving to this task is grossly inadequate to cope with submissions and that the queue is set to grow. If you have 5 volunteers generously giving 2 hours a week to review submissions, and you have 20 hours worth of new submissions coming in each week, then generous or not, this isn't going to work! This bears no reflection on the people doing the reviewing, but on the people have decided that the current situation is acceptable and sustainable, and who continue to be precious about who gets to lend a hand.

The rather cliquey approach of 'appointment by recommendation' shows that management of the JED is a popularity contest rather than a genuine attempt to improve the systems of the JED by getting those who have the time and expertise required. I appreciate that larger groups of volunteers makes co-ordination more of a challenge, but what choice do you have when things just aren't getting done and the situation is getting worse? The cavalier attitude towards issues with the JED reflected in the posts of several JED members is evidence of this.

I've been reading since November about how we should be patient while the new team adjust to their new roles. How long exactly is this adjustment expected to take, and how will you celebrate the occasion when the queue reaches 500?

I don't believe that there is a shortage of volunteers offering to help out with the JED, I just think that too few of those putting their hand up are having their offers accepted. Please don't misconstrue this as an attack, it's really a plea for someone to accept the situation and take some kind of action (with my help and the help of others if it's needed).

Hi,

Isn't it possible to allow people help only with the testing new submitted extensions without giving them other permissions to not loose the valuable resources?

Just to compare with WordPress, they review and answer about new submitted plugin in 24 hours and I do not think that their team is any bigger.
