Propose new field for JED
Hi,
I propose a new field for the extension data in JED.
I try as far as possible to use only extensions that are updatable from extension manager in Joomla. It would be of value to be able to filter or at least see what extensions are possible to update automatically without having to download and install them and wait for an update.
This probably also will give an incentive to the developers to actually make their extensions updatable through the joomla extension manager.
Regards,
Tommy

I would agree IF the extension updater would provide some sort of authentication method

For extensions that require you to be a subscriber such as akeeba backup professional you can not use the extension updater as there is no method for the access to be restricted to valid subscribers

Then the field value would be, for example, "No" for Akeeba Backup Professional. That's the point - although, in in Nic's case you can probably allow for "Custom" because he does his own things for semi-automated updates. That would be acceptable in my view.brian wrote:For extensions that require you to be a subscriber such as akeeba backup professional you can not use the extension updater as there is no method for the access to be restricted to valid subscribers

Re: Propose new field for JED
Jomres has, for years, offered it's own automatic update process. Because, however, we don't use the Joomla installer we don't use the J updater. I imagine under this proposal we'd be excluded, however it seems to me that both ABP and Jomres would fall into a second category "uses own updater".

Re: Propose new field for JED
I have thought of adding a custom updater for my extensions as well, but I am hesitant because of the "phone home" rule, whereby it is prohibited for a component to call back to base... is it ok to do this with a custom updater?
Thanks!
Thanks!
