Developer Documentation

Post by deanflyer » Tue Feb 12, 2013 10:42 am

I am putting together a repository of information on official Joomla Development source. I've been a Joomla user for about 5 years now, but never much used the dev. side of things so I am new to the docs.

I see from forums that documentation used to be on DocBook XML but has transitioned to Markdown, I presume this is available in /docs on the GitHub repository. What is http://developer.joomla.org/manual? Is this generated from the GitHub /doc repo or is it a separately generated document source. Also it says Joomla Platform 12.1 (but with an icon saying Platform 11.3!).

The latest Platform release is 12.3 where do I go to get latest docs on this (is GitHub always latest version)? Will this be transitioned across to developer.joomla.org site/manual, or should GitHub be used now as authoritive?

Where does docs.joomla.org/developers fit in. I know its a wiki but is there any official cross updating of the latest Joomla Platform docs etc. to this i.e. I only knew Platform 12.3 had been released because of a link under development news on developer.joomla.org

Im not nitpicking and I realise most areas are looked after by volunteers, I am just trying to understand where eveything is.

Thanks, Yes I've seen that. The issue is knowing what belongs to which Joomla release. For example at the moment I'm trying to find out info about the new MVC model in J Platform 12.1.

If the platform is version 12.1, it means the first release in 2012. This is Joomla 2.5. That said, a page somewhere with all versions combined would indeed be helpful.

Thanks for that. So api.joomla.doc only has 12.1 as the latest version, which platform does 3.0 run on?
