Finding the non-SEF URL

Post by brendonhatcher » Sat Feb 16, 2013 6:23 pm

Hi

When manually making links between pages of a Joomla site that has SEF turned on, the temptation is to simply grab the URL of the page one is linking to and then use that.

However, if the SEF URL for the destination page is altered (e.g. changing the page alias), then the inbound link will break.

I used to use an extension called URL tactics which showed the raw url at the bottom of the page.
The extension was abandoned long ago, but happened to continue working on Joomla 2.5.

I have installed a PHP-parsing module on my Joomla 3 site, and I am now trying to write the necessary code to fetch the raw URL for the current page.

I'm a really script kiddie when it comes to kludging together some PHP, and I can usually get by.

In this case, the problem is that most of the documented code I am finding on Google is for older versions of Joomla and my usual approach is not working.

Can anyone assist?

Thanks
Brendon
