The word mambot is a contraction of "mambo" and "bot". The word mosbot is "mambo open source" plus "bot".

I have just created probably the world's first joombot (or josbot), and that is called joshighlight because it highlights search words in main content.

But is this naming convention the way to go? Joombot and jos- ?

I would like to know before I make it public  :)

The quicker the names are changed over the better, whatever they end up being especially with the new joomla version coming out...start fresh

As explained elsewhere, there are so many instances of 'mos' throughout the code that these are likely not to be changed any time soon.  There are hundreds of references, and changing them now would just break everything, in particular 3PD components.

I think we need to be patient for that name change to happen

Why not just call them 'bots' - if you need to refer to them out of context with Joomla!, then use the term Joomla! bot.

Eg - on this forum "I just made a bot"
Talking to someone in the office "I made a bot for Joomla!" or "I made a Joomla! bot"

No, the name itself will not break anything. I can call a bot whatever I like, it doesn't really matter as the name is registered with the core when installed.

So unless I misunderstand you, I don't see any problems here.

Ah perhaps we misunderstood each other.  I thought you meant cleaning the code to remove references to mos, mambo, etc.  you obviously just meant the labelling/naming through admin etc. :)

I like 'Joombots' - actually (sorry to say) I think that sounds even better than the word "Joomla!" itself (still having to get used to it) - but Joombots sounds nice to german ears, I think :)

My initial gut reaction was rename them right away!!!

But there is value for the time being in not messing with this.

Until Mambo or Joomla change the Mambot code it means users on both sides have more Mambots to choose from.

I think when the new Joomla!Forge is up and running a few more add-on developers will come over to this side when they see more and more follow through.

Well if there were only System Extensions, and not Components/Modules/Mambots then we could call them all Jose.

;D

My father-in-law would surely appreciate that (his name is José).  We could also label Components/Modules/Bits as Jose C., Jose M. and Jose B. ;)

I thought I'd see just how many - in the beta of 4.5.3 there are 13,413 occurences of 'mos' in 810 files.  That's not a bad effort  ;)

Wouldn't it be an idea to duplicate all mosxxx occurences, will say change one by one the mosxxx calls into josxxx calls (or whatever prefix will be selected) a create a mosxxx call that maps to the newly created  josxxx call.
This would allow 3PD to switch to new syntax smoothly while old components keep on running.

Bye
