Joomla 3.0 installation hangs on "Creating database tables"

Hi guys

I'm trying to install joomla (tried 3.0.3 and 3.0.2) locally on my computer and it hangs on the "Creating database tables" part with that blue loading thingie loading forever and never moving on.
I'm using Apache 2.2.22, PHP 5.4.11, and MySQL 5.6.10

I reverted to MySQL 5.5.30 and the installation completed successfully.
