translation tutorial
Hi,
is there a good tutorial that explains how to make a joomla! language pack?
is it possible to migrate / upgrade a 1.5 to 2.5 language pack or do I have to start fresh?
Thanks,
HS

Suggest reviewing the document http://docs.joomla.org/Tutorial:Making_ ... ersion_1.6.hstein wrote:is there a good tutorial that explains how to make a joomla! language pack?
Suggest reviewing the discussion http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p ... 9#p2614929 that provides a tool to convert the 1.5 language packs to 1.7 language packs. This could translate around 60% of the strings. Hopefully this should help you out in your effort.hstein wrote: is it possible to migrate / upgrade a 1.5 to 2.5 language pack or do I have to start fresh?
Curious to know, what what language pack you intend to translate?

Re: translation tutorial
Thank you Imanickam,
I´ll look into those links.
I want to make a Icelandic language pack. It was made a few years ago for Joomla! 1.5 but I don´t see much Icelandic activity in the forum now. I just recently started using Joomla! myself.

Re: translation tutorial
Thanks for the information. I do not know whether the translation team that translated Joomla! 1.5 language packs to Icelandic is engaged in translating the Joomla! 2.5 language packs to Icelantic.
Just in case to avoid the duplication of work, i suggest that you get in touch with the Icelantic translation coordinator Magnus Gudlaugsson. The coordinator's contact information can be found at http://community.joomla.org/translation ... tions.html.

Re: translation tutorial
they are no longer involved in joomla in general, I don´t think there is any active icelandic joomla group.
Regarding the instruction links, I am looking for something simpler, perhaps a tutorial of some sorts. I suppose I could download a lagnuage pack for anoter language and figure out how to put it together.
Thanks,
HS.

Re: translation tutorial
Got it...
You could review the document http://docs.joomla.org/Making_a_Languag ... Joomla_1.6.
Also, as mentioned in the post http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p ... 9#p2614929,
(a) the extension Localise (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tion/17755) would be of help;
(b) the extension/component (com_langconv_v0.2.zip - attached in the post) would be of help in converting around 40% of the transalation strings from Joomla! 1.5 to Joomla! 2.5.
You can choose any language pack of 2.5 that is available at http://community.joomla.org/translation ... tions.html and see how things are organized.
Anyway, the first order of business is to translate the strings.

I've been studying for a teaching language translation of contents Frontpage
Does anyone have any good resources (preferably video training and/or tutorials) on learning 1.6?
