Well what to say...I guess I have finally made my conversion to Joomla!

I was a member of the Documentation Team over at Mambo.  When mamboserver.com was sold to Ansearch, I expressed my sentiments and quietly resigned....no fuss, no mess--I left on good terms.  Today I go back on the forums and I realized that I have been banned.  My only action that could have warranted that was from a post I made to the new mamboguru.com forums..

now before anyone jumps down my back for bringing up Mambo here...I do apologize  :-[.  I just wanted to share my feelings of shock, disgust, hurt...

If this thread degenerates..please lock it.
Thank you,

Shawn

Hey shawn122 nice to seeing you here.
After that episode and a bitter taste of
what happened, I ran here for comfort.
Checked my attendance to the forums
of familiar faces, and of  my  heritage.
When I logged today, I don't know
where to start but when I saw the
familiar name  :laugh:shawn122
one of the good people outhere then
I decided to start from here to greet you.
Come aboard mate!

yepp...I just noticed it myself.  Whats done is done--I dont see how 'unbanning' someone is supposed to repair the damage that was done.  *sigh*

There is, indeed, trouble at the mill and Counterpoint (Martin Brampton) has resigned as the Mambo project lead, it seems.

They're banning EVERYONE that states any little fact about their practices and speaks up about it.  I just got banned from there (again) for the following two posts (the first was written today, which prompted a ban within minutes - the second was originally written yesterday which was removed)...  The ban is pointless anyway - I lost what little respect I had left for the project when I learned of the events that led up to their lead dev resigning from both the Board and the dev team - I had no intention of going back after seeing their blatant cencorship of posts from a member of their so-called "valued community".

Oh well - enough time wasted on this.  :)  Here's the posts, just so people see first hand why sticking with Joomla is the best decision to make.
Censorship on a forum like this - especially considering the turmoil going on now - only goes to prove the people running Mambo cannot be trusted.  Tsk, Tsk - for shame for shame.

For those of you reading this (while you can, anyway, as I am sure it will be removed the second it's noticed by the dictatorship) wondering what I am talking about - I posted a message in this thread stating this particular part of the forum is defunct.  It's useless, unless you want to be banned for openly supporting Mambo.  I'll post the original thread - in its entirety - on forums that cannot censor my statements.

Meanwhile, I have all the proof I need to make this decision:

Remove all of my posts and account(s) from this board.  I no longer wish to be associated in ANY way with Mambo.  I'll be focusing all of my efforts elsewhere, with a group that can actually handle criticism like adults.

I think - judging from the controversy that's arisen with MamboGurus - that it'd be a safe bet to think Raman's had this dea scared out of his head.

In fact, in light of the actions that transpired and the events following, it's likely that this particuar forum is obsolete.  It's been shown that any form of support site, fan site, or "outside community" that's even remotely has the intention to support Mambo subjects the "perpetrator" to harassment, sanctions, and in a growing number of cases, an outright ban from these forums.

That's an EXCELLENT way to gather and keep support from a community that supports Mambo.  I've said it before, I'll say it again - Mambo is nothing without its user-base.  Banning people (and in Martin's case, forcing his resignation from both the Board and as a lead developer) who set up additional support for THIS project is the perfect way to make sure Mambo dies the slow death everyone's prophetized.

I guess I better be careful what I say here - I could be the next target of theis board's "Nuke 'Im" button...  Not that it's going to be a loss - I've already lost respect for the project and could care less whether I get to post a single syllable here anymore.

But - should that happen it will just be one more piece of proof that something smells in the state of Mambo.
Obviously when it comes to Mambo, the truth does indeed hurt.  Keep on keepin' on, guys - they're only shooting themselves in the foot, and apparently they've got an unlimited supply of bullets.

The only polite way is to ask the administrator.
Who is the administrator is the question...
To be sure, report a "SuperModerator" post, stating you wish your account to be deleted.

After checking MS on a different system (my usual system is still locked in the "banned" position when I bring it up), I find that all of my posts were removed as well.  No big deal - I asked that they were.

Here's the funny thing - I wanted to be sure my account was removed as well, as I explicitly requested, so I click on the Members List....  Funny thing:  "Sorry! The Administrator has disabled the list of members."

So they are NOT deleting accounts as they have been requested to do, thus keeping an inaccurate and bloated sense of "self-worth".  Which in a twisted way would make sense if you're Mambo (or better yet, Peter Lamont) - the only "value" he sold Mambo on was the strength of the forum.  It doesn't matter if 60% of the members are banned, so long as you can keep the member count artificially bloated.

With every passing day he proves just how much of a liability he is to Mambo.

Perhaps you should look at being banned as a "lucky" break  ;)

Obviously those in charge of Mambo do not understand the concept of "community" and those being ostracized will find a happier and friendly family here :)

Also interesting is the fact that complete threads have been deleted about the Mambo/ansearch thing. If you searched the forum for ansearch yesterday, you got 6 - 8 threads, today its only three and only one thread talks about it in another way than praising it. The stuff sayed in the thread was also not really true. If you look at the posting of ricoflan, you'll see that he wants to divert attention. It was never about registering Mambo as a new trademark somewhere, but about handing over the trademark registered in Australia over to the foundation. I haven't heard anything that they have done this now and the other mambo team members in that thread also don't even mention this again in their posts.

Spin/damage control - and Hazman's getting a quick doctorate in it, from what I've seen.  I'm just wondering how many "sheep" will be left after they've fallen off the cliff Lamont's obviously leading them towards.

The odd thing is that they don't get it - they can spin everything all they want on *thier* site, and make everything look like it's coming up roses (they have that power, as the bannings and thread/post deletions show) but they can't control the facts that are posted on other boards.  To find a nicer term than a four-letter word that starts with "s" and ends in "t", the "fertilizer" that serves as the facts surrounding how the Mambo dictatorship operates will always be visible - no matter how much crap they want to clean out of their doorstep.

To paraphrase an old saying - "if it looks like fertilizer, talks like fertilizer, and walks like fertilizer...."  :P

Been saying that from Day 1 of the split - and yet here they are AGAIN doing everything they can to prove that belief right...

It was the COMMUNITY that made Mambo what it was.  It was the DEVS that made the software what it was.  It was Peter Lamont that took all that and cashed it in for $1 million and stock options - no matter what the community or devs thought.

Three guesses as to how many community members or developers will share in Lamont's new pay-day.

It's not about the money - it's about the hard work the devs put into the software, and the support the community gave the project.  Invaluable to US, but apparently Lamont's got a price and he doesn't care who he steps on to achieve it.  THAT'S the future Mambo's got to look forward to....

Ok people, this forum is for discussions regarding JOOMLA I believe there are other 'mambo' forums where things like this can be discussed. All this proves, is that we did the right thing back in Aug 2005. It does amaze me though, that some seem to be surprised at what is going on over there... I mean if it was not that serious a situation, do you really think we would have gone through the pain of moving the project to Joomla?

We left mambo a LONG time ago, let's try to move on and not keep looking back :)

Edit: We won't allow any other 'CMS bashing' either.. drupal, xoops etc etc.. that's not what we are here for.

I agree Brad. With your indulgence though, I would like to clarify one thing.

Yesterday, I found more of my posts that had been deleted and, for some, the content reposted under a different name. Entire threads, completely unrelated to Mambo Guru, the sale, or anything else controversial, had been removed. Any corrections made to the misinformation given by mods had been removed.  I had previously sought an assurance that MC would not take any action that breached my copyright (this was in relation to the FAQ's I had contributed) and had no response. This, and the misappropriation of my copyright material, led me to request that all posts, FAQ's, my email address and account were deleted from their servers and any backups that contained them.

So, the disappearance of Elpie from that forum was my doing. I *could* have let Elpie stay on the forum, they weren't banning me, but with few posts left and the "ownership" of various tips and FAQ's being changed to other usernames, I felt I had no other option but to request entire, rather than selective, removal.

To give them credit, all my tips etc that had been posted under other names appear to have now been removed.

End of story. No more to be said.

While the problems occuring within Mambo are unfortunate and we do understand & appreciate the sentiment and feelings of Mambo community members who are being disenfranchised - as indicated by Brad, these forums are about Joomla!

To that end, this thread is being Locked.
