Error: 500 JHtmlBehavior::formvalidator not found.

Hello I have been working on a site for 2 months and about to turn it on live and ran into a problem when updating from 3.3.6 to 3.4 just a few hours ago. When I was working on the site, I saw there was a notice to update versions so click to begin the update. It never completed and returns a
"500 JHtmlBehavior::formvalidator not found" error when trying to go to the admin configuration. The control panel seems to work. The front end is a blank screen. Help! Is there any way to return to 3.3.6 without losing months of work? My only backup was when I started months ago. I do have a MySQL backup from today however.

check that view and see the library: formvalidator
/libraries/cms/html/behavior.php

Hi JCMS The file is there. Apparently the update got stalled after updating part of the database was updated so the schema version did not match. I went to the extension manager a few minutes ago and clicked on the "Fix Database" button and everything died. No back end or front end now;>(
Without a backup for the 3.3.6 version and all the additions and content in the Database that now is not compatible, it could take months to recreate the site

Just run into exactly the same problem!!!!

Whats going on with this update, is there a bug or something?

My upgrade also stalled 25% of the way through, site appears to be working but I cannot access areas of admin without getting the Error: 500 JHtmlBehavior::formvalidator not found message....

OK solved my problem may be more luck that anything else!

I still had admin access, went to extension manager and updates, purged. Went back to Joomla Updates component and the udate appeared again...

Ran it this time and it worked....

Thanks for the update Kevin, unfortunately I have no backend access now either so the normal methods of recovering from a damaged update are not going to work for me.
It there a list of database changes made by the update to 3.4? I suspect the problem is related to that.

Hello.

I was getting the same error when attempting to upgrade to v3.4. System would start upgrade, then would fail complaining about not being able to write to certain files. Noticed one consequence of this, due to partial installation, was that attempts to access global config issued error 500. Solved by granting write access to 'other' for each file system complained about during the upgrade, and proceeded until installation completed. Not ideal admittedly, but at least installation completed, and now I have access to global config. Will deal with access level of files that were changed to allow upgrade to complete. Would seriously advise taking a backup before any upgrade, as the previous versions of Joomla 3.x also caused errors.

Quick follow up to my previous post. Jubilation turned to despair - the frontend is showing blank page as mentioned by Stanj. So, seems v3.4 is seriously flawed, in our cases anyway. BAckup, backup, backup before even attempting this upgrade. Anyone else found a solution?

The only way I can think of is to manually upload files through FTP and run the installation.

Just a general remark reading all of this. The magic word is BACKUP

Make daily backups of your database. Many extensions are on JED doing this fully automated for you and they send the database to your (gmail example) account
Make full site backups each week and download (Akeebabackup is free!) and download to your PC or buy Pro version and have it fully automated with upload to Amazon S3 or Dropbox to mention a few options
Always BACKUP BEFORE YOU UPGRADE (Akeebabackup)
Pray that your host has a working backup! if the host has no backup --> change host!
Swear at yourself when you ignore this, whack your head against the wall and start all over

I experienced the same issue when I upgraded from 3.3.6 to 3.4.0.
Via ftp I removed the file /libraries/cms/htmlbehavior.php and moved the fresh one from the zipped installation folder to the destination. The file version from 3.3.6 didn't work but the 3.4.0 worked well. Error message desappeared and I could access to all my privileges of superadministrator
