Joomla manuals in PDF

Post by peter.strnad » Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:40 pm

hello,

I have been searching on the web to find some manuals. Is there a manual in PDF or file alike? I have found only html pages however I would like to print manuals out and read it in peace so I would find out what all the system is capable of.

Thanks for the answer

Peter

For the time being try http://www.scotweb.com/  they have a very good starter tutorial in pdf and Word format.  Both Administrator and User Manual are in progress and we hope to have a first version out soon.

ledzep is looking for someone (some people) to help him write the User Manual.  If you are available, please let me know.  The sooner we get things written, the sooner we have a quality pdf version of the document.

Thanks!

I could help convert the documents to pdf to create a downloadable book.  Let me know what I can do.

I probably won't be much help writing since I am very new to Joomla, but I am a good proof reader.  So feel free to send me stuff.

I speak French, German, English and Dutch. In my company, I'm working as an information manager and I know something about how to structure information.

I like Joomla a lot and I'm willing to help. Of course, like all of you, my most precious resource is "available time".
Anyway, please feel free to contact me and tell me exactly what you need, how you are working and let's see how I could help !

Thank you for your offers.  Our three person team is busy trying to get the first draft completed and although I may be away from April 4 - 17 we hope to have a version for proofing by the end of April.

Our aim is to publish a first User Manual in May.  We will then be looking to producing an Advanced Manual and more of this project later.

When we are near to needing proof readers etc. I will certainly appreciate assistance.

Just wanted to say thanks to the Joomla team. I have been using Zencart for some time and found that although it is a great ecommerce package , its not exactly what I was looking for. What I was looking for was Joomla! Keep up the great work. I am looking forward to the release of the documentation and would like to help any way that I can.  :)

I was looking for some printable documentation for joomla, found this link, but sadly, both links above are not working today.  Anyone know a good resource for a joomla manual?

Sminc -

There is more! If you are indeed brand new to Joomla!, I *highly* recommend you read through and study the material in the "Absolute Beginner's Guide to Joomla!" . This is a collection of *excellent* tutorials people have found jump start learning.

Good luck!

You can also try http://help.joomla.org/images/User_manu ... mbined.pdf

I only noticed today and haven't seen any announcements about its long awaited arrival.

Hey, Brian. Perhaps you could open the PDF you found and look closely at it. You might understand, then, why there has been no "announcement about its long awaited arrival."  ;)

This is NOT a mistake in communication on the doc's team part that you have uncovered for us. They are just not done, yet! Next time, contact Michelle. She is really nice and easy to work with and I am certain she would respond to you right away! She might have a reason for not making an announcement that I am *quite* certain she would share with you.

Please bear in mind, they are AT LEAST as aware as you are about how long awaited it's been and are anxious to have others take advantage of their hard work. When it's complete, I'll bet the announcement will SHORTLY follow!

Plus, it's for version 1.5, as it should be! And, v. 1.5 is not yet available.

Amy  :)

The user manual version .pdf  for 1.0x is not in it's final stage as it still needs to be proof-read and the doc team member who wrote it is unavailable for a couple of weeks that is why I haven't announced it.

No, this is for 1.0x.  The author wanted to have something for Users for 1.0x.

This work will be a great foundation for the 1.5x User Manual as we won't have to rewrite everything.

We are still putting a priority to get the Help Screens for 1.5x ready.

Sorry about that - you are absolutely correct. Looks like there is still quite a bit that the author wants to do (lots of items - but no pictures and explanations.)

BUT - whoever is taking this on - what you have so far is FABULOUS! Excellent work!

Thanks for the update Michelle. I'll do some proofreading this weekend. (I did volunteer for proofreading earlier as requested but never heard anything from you)

Just a suggestion but perhaps the manual should have on the front page that it is a pre-release version (or something like that) and that comments, corrections etc are welcome). You know what google is like the link will be there for ever and if the manual isn't quite what you want in terms of quality etc it would be good to flag it is as such.

Brian

(and if a doc team member thinks it is for 1.5 when it is clearly for 1.0???)

Hi Michelle,

Absolute awesome work your doc-team is doing !
Wasn´t aware of this User Manual before I saw the link Brian provided, thanks Brian  ;), and must say that this looks pretty good.

Can´t wait to assign a new task with high priority to the local translation team.
Having solid user documentation for the 1.0.x series is just as important as solid documentation for the upcoming 1.5 series.
This manual will become quite popular, no doubt about that  :)

ot2sen,

Thanks!  This User Manual is the result of mainly one of our general doc team members.  At this point, he prefers to remain anonomous.

namibiaboy,

Thanks for your comments and encouragement!  Please publish any suggestion for corrections here.  Do read other posts in this forum about the User manual so that you don't correct the same spelling/grammar mistakes as others.  Do put User Manual in the suject line of your post.

Animetal,

The best is to go to the  Joomla! Language Zone forum to find someone to work with you.
http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,11.0.html

Or you could try the Spanish forum.
